Wife is in the hospital with vertigo, headache and nausea since Thursday morning.
When she leans to the left it goes away but when she leans to the right the dizziness kicks in big time. I said that she had a republican Michele Bachmann disease because it only happened when she leans right.

Serious though ...she is in the hospital for this ...prayers are much appreciated.

10. Could just be an inner ear problem
that's treatable with manipulation but don't try this at home. Could be something that's treatable with meclizine, it's generic and cheap. Could be an infection.

Sending vibes that it's something easily treated and she'll be on her way home tomorrow.

44. I did too & was surprised & relieved. It's scary having vertigo. It's a matter of repositioning
the tiny "granules" or "debris" from one chamber to another in the inner ear.

11. I know this is an extreme long shot
but is there a chance she is suffering from Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo?

It's easy to treat, if by some miracle that's all she has. I hope she feels better soon!

13. Have they done an "Epley" maneuver on her?
Some docs want to push the anti-vertigo meds right away, but they make you feel real dopey. The drugs DO take care of the nausea. If they've ruled out other physical things and have decided it really is vertigo, ask them to try the Epley. My husband has had a couple of bouts of positional vertigo and has had success just going through those timed head motions. Our doc couldn't do it herself, but was able to send us to someone who could. He's been good now for 8 months. They said one of the grains of 'ballast' in the ear canal had become displaced.

Prayers are coming your way that they can get this fixed.

I mean ...eeg, mri, ct, xray, blood work, ultra sound. They did just take a nasal swab. My money is on mold in the sinus. Going to buy some mold tests kits and try them out.

nauseous and give you a headache. I hope she's better soon. Here's a video that I found that actually got rid of my vertigo. I know it sounds crazy but the treatment worked:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1OY3n3PYwk

Of course it depends on what is causing the vertigo as to whether or not it will work but it sure worked for me. I always got vertigo when I turned my head to the left or turned on my left side in bed.

34. One day, after I got off a plane...
I started noticing my eyes doing this weird "trailing" thing (that's what I called it. I'd move my head, my eyes seemed slow to react, I'd get incredibly dizzy and nauseous. The worst was that it often happened when I drove, and would glance over my shoulder to change lanes. It was so weird.
They ran VNG/ENG tests, which showed nothing definitive, but curiously, my eyes move way to much to follow small, moving detail. I was 31 at the time, so my ENT feared multiple sclerosis. Off for an MRI to check for that and eye/ear nerve tumors.
Know what it ended up being? Atypical migraines. These migraines often don't have the accompanying headaches, but I get all the rest of the awful effects.

I hope your wife is okay.

36. Hope it is an inner ear virus like I had
Thought I had a brain tumor and was going to DIE. Couldn't walk, vomited constantly and had a two year old to take care of.

Luckily hub took off work and the docs prescribed a med that worked in a couple of days. But I was so scared.

Hope everything works out well.

Edited on Sat Sep-10-11 08:41 PM by Zanzoobar
Her brain will probably adjust to the inner ear problem over time, with mild symptoms as I have had years later.

When it first happened I thought I was dying. It's pretty f*cking scary.

It was the first and only time I had IV valium. Wasted immediately.

But it still messed me up for better than six months. I wobbled around unsteady for more than a month.

A lot of people get over it in a shorter time if it's just an ear infection.

All my best wishes.

These are also symptoms of potassium being too low (should be 3.4-5). I hope and pray it is something that simple. A family member had this problem and was able to get it back into check with a 24 hour IV.

I know how scary it can be. Vertigo sucks.
