It's not a holiday, and it's a piss poor excuse for the application of the term "patriot", given how that word was abused with passage of the Patriot Act.
It's not even a little bit funny.

5. What is "happy" about an anniversary of one of our country's darkest days? |
|
And everything that it enabled a less than ethical regime do to us and the world?
There is no happiness associated with this day, only sorrow!

6. I've seen today referred to as "Patriot Day" a few times and |
|
they've all been right here on DU - mostly as snark, insult or flame bait.
I have seen zero people in real life 'celebrate' this day, but I have seen tears today and yesterday.
There are plenty of DU members who choose not to acknowledge today, and that's fine, but for those who wish to remember in some way - they should be allowed to without the snark and nastiness. We're all members of this DU community and hold in common, basic beliefs - a little respect for our fellow members is in order.
It's better to hold someone up, than to tear them down.
Be well.

10. Yep, It was actually called Patriot's Day. An Edsel of an idea. |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-11-11 10:39 AM by Democrats_win
My calendar calls today 9/11 Remembrance Day--a much more appropriate name.
Patriot's Day was just another one of the many bad ideas that the Bush Corporation/pResidency came up with. Remember Freedom Fries? Honestly, don't they have a marketing department to tell them that these Edsels will never sell?

Not like that fake, nationalistic version passed after 9/11.

17. I got my red t shirt that says 'PATRIOTISM' on the front of it |
|
underneath an American flag.
It was made in El Salvadore, but that's close to the United States of America and is technically a part of the "Americas"
