After 10 years, can we finally get our Heartland back? |
|
I was raised in the Heartland. America always was the Heartland, where we cared for one and other.
This Homeland where we are encouraged to suspect each other, with huge signs over our highway with the number to turn each other in with. Where jack booted and armored police await on our subway platforms ready to randomly search our bags, confiscate our cameras all in the name of public safety. This place is foreign to me.
We lived in the Heartland, the home of the brave who were reduced to cowering and fearing security measures whilst our treasury was plundered by those who would rule by fiat not for the benefit of the public or the brave or even the veterans of their efforts which they claimed were to make the world safer but in fact exacerbated our enmity among nations.
This place is foreign to me and I fear the Heartland has been killed.

K/R It does seem like a foreign country from the one I remember from my youth. I miss it.

6. I agree with what you say. |

Getting it back will be much more difficult than losing it was. I wonder why that is? Giving UP rights takes so little time and effort. All they had to do was use fear to get people to go along. But restoring rights has never been easy. Which is why it is so tragic that they were given up so easily.

7. 'Homeland' always creeped me out but I believe 'heartland' refers only to the midwest. |

Or 'flyover country' as folks on the coasts call us. :)

9. as a Midwestern country boy I truly hate the term "fly-over country" |
|
It's almost always used by sneering Latte-Liberal types on the coasts that think of us Midwesterners as backwards, uncouth, knuckle-dragging hicks.
