Were there 2 different memorials last night?
I can't understand how you could not be moved to tears by President Obama's speech last night. Nevertheless people around here are saying it was like a campaign rally and found those people cheering to be tacky. Sarah Palin on the other hand sounded Presidential and delivered her message with grace and poise.:puke: I don't get it I really don't

1. It's the old Paul Wellstone memorial trick
Surely you remember the huge right-wing outrage at the "spirited" memorial service that was held when Paul Wellstone, beloved of (most) Minnesotans, was killed in a plane crash. They tried to use that one politically. And it probably worked. It won't this time.

The memorial was a celebration of lives lost, of heroism, of healing. It was Tuscon trying to show it could come together and move on. There was reason to celebrate.

2. Yes I remember it was sick and upset me very much.
I feel like I am stuck in an episode of The Twilight Zone

4. They were told what to expect in advance from the RW Media Hatemongers.

If they actually did tune in they were watching with jaded eyes.
Some probably voiced the opinion they were scripted to give.

5. While I think Palin is and always will be a self-serving hack ...
... the POTUS didn't "move me to tears".
How many times can he turn the other cheek to the party that just keeps slappin' him? And what good is it doing the rest of us?

I've heard enough speechifyin', now FIX WHAT's BROKE. That's the best memorial we could offer to the fallen.

6. I think he addressed the rhetoric issue in his speech with class
I don't think it was turning the other cheek.

7. I was very uncomfortable with the cheering at the beginning,
and so was everyone in the room where I was.

However, the speeches themselves were very well planned, and President Obama's was just about perfect. Every single person sitting with me had a completely different experience by the end of the event. Everyone was tremendously moved and grateful to have him speaking to us as a nation.

President Obama is not responsible for the initial tone set by the people in the hall. I think people are just reporting honestly what they felt about it.
