Good podcasts?
Hey DU. Finally got an iPod (classic, 160GB). Better late to the party than never, I suppose. Anyway, I have a long commute and was thinking some podcasts might be nice to pass the time. What would you recommend? I'd be interested in news and opinion without all the right-wing noise. Any suggestions on this, or just other podcasts you think are cool, would be appreciated. Thanks.

when I realizesl they were defending the indefensible. I asked for a refund and they gave it. I like them but I don't want to pay for them anymore .. (You have to pay for these.)

6. Democracy Now!
It is progressive news without the opinion. I tend to prefer news without the opinion, these days.

16. NORMAN GOLDMAN and NICOLE SANDLER, bar none!!!
Both are FREE and they are straightshooters. Both are very liberal but they are honest enough to say when they believe the Democratic Party is off-base. I like truth, and they deliver. Can't recommend highly enough!

11. For just plain funny and tasteless or whatever - SMODCAST Network
Kevin Smith's powerhouse of podcasts that began with just him and Scott Mosier shooting the breeze. Now has become a 7-day collection of aural assault from the likes of Kevin, his wife Jen, Jay Mohr, Matt Cohen, Jay&Silent Bob and many others.

My personal favorite is Plus One starring Kevin and Jen.

12. I listen to a lot of good public radio podcasts -- from individual stations around the country.
Edited on Sun Sep-11-11 08:44 PM by gauguin57
I like to listen to shows we don't get on my NPR station. All of the podcasts I'm listing here are FREE:

One of my faves is Harry Shearer's "Le Show," distributed via KCRW in L.A.

I also like "The Story With Dick Gordon" from WUNC in Chapel Hill, NC.

Also, the Diane Rehm Show and the Kojo Nnamdi Show from WAMU in D.C.

I like the NPR "Talk of the Nation: Science Friday" podcast, and also the NOVA Science Now podcast.

Also check "Selected Shorts" from PRI (theater actors reading short stories).

NPR also has a "shuffle" podcast every day, which gives you a smattering of what you missed on "Morning Edition" and "All Things Considered." There are NPR "topic" podcasts, like Food, Books, Movie reviews (by David Edelstein), Culture, etc.

Garrison Keillor has a "Writers Almanac" podcast, and a "News From Lake Woebegone" podcast that I like.

I like "Studio 360"; "Fresh Air"; "Tell Me More"; "Here and Now"; "Talk of the Nation"; "This American Life" and "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me."

If you like art, the National Gallery has both audio and video podcasts.

The New Yorker has writers reading each others' fiction, and another podcast called "Out Loud." Also, the New York Times has a variety of podcasts -- a summary of the front page each day, etc.

Whew. I would die without my iPod (which I was late to the party in getting, as well ... but, obviously, have thrown myself in with both feet)
