Primary season: if not Obama, WHO?
Edited on Thu Dec-16-10 04:01 AM by Smarmie Doofus
Not "a should he or shouldn't he be renominated" thread. ( That's been settled... to my satisfaction, anyway.)

Rather, a " Who could mount a serious renomination challenge?" thread.

1. Unless he chooses not to run,
there won't be a challenger within the party. The system is set up to ensure that.

3. I wonder if we could get Ross Perot to run again?
He seemed to be the only one without stars in their eyes over the uber rich.

But he would have to pick a better VP. Though he could have picked a worse VP like McCain did.

6. Interesting. But....
...among other things.....he's not a DEM, endorsed Bush Jr. in 2000 and Romney in 2008.

That'd be a tough sell in DEM primaries.

9. It doesn't matter. He's not a politician.
If there's one thing that ties DU together, it's the eternal dream of a politics-without-politicians.

In this season of the Virgin Birth, the dream is stronger than ever.

4. Elizabeth Warren.
Unfortunately she probably would never consider it.
How sad there's such a lack of people with her high
standards and principles to even consider.

5. That would be awesome
Gave me a little rush to think about it... and now we're back in the real world. :/

7. High standards and principles, yes.
But a bit of a stretch. No elective office, limited ( i.e. narrow) experience. etc.

Also... she's an Obama appointee, no?

That'd make a primary challenge rather awkward.

8. Progressive politics is about feeling good.
Edited on Thu Dec-16-10 08:30 AM by Davis_X_Machina
It's a form of self-expression.
It's a form of social signaling to friends and neigbors who you are and what you feel and believe by your choice in consumer goods candidates.

She'd be perfect. Lack of record, etc. is irrelevant.

10. As is *all* politics.
>>>It's a form of self-expression. >>>>

As is "moderation". Come on now... doncha get just a little ego kick from being conscious of dealing with the "world as it IS"?

>>>>It's a form of social signaling to friends and neigbors who you are and what you feel and believe by your choice in consumer goods candidates.>>>

As is all politics. It's other things too, but it is indeed a public statement about one's self.

>>>She'd be perfect. Lack of record, etc. is irrelevant.>>>

Sure, but nuttier arguments have been made in defense of maintaining a failed status quo.
