Cuba Laucnes World's First Vaccine Against Lung Cancer."
This was posted on another forum and I don't know how reliable the news source is, but if this is try then it is a great step forward in cancer research and weakens the "free-market innovation" myth. Link: http://www.lef.org/news/LefDailyNews.htm?NewsID=11628&Section=Disease

CimaVax-EGF isn’t a vaccine in the preventative sense--that is, it doesn’t prevent lung cancer from taking hold in new patients. It’s based on a protein related to uncontrolled cell proliferation--that is, it doesn’t prevent cancer from existing in the first place but attacks the mechanism by which it does harm.

<snip>

The vaccine has already been tested in 1,000 patients in Cuba and is being distributed at hospitals there free of charge. That’s a big deal for a country where smoking is part of the national culture and a leading cause of death. If it proves as successful as researchers say it is, it should give those suffering from lung cancer reason to celebrate--just not with a Cohiba.

3. My 58-year-old cousin died this year from lung cancer tha had spread to her
other organs. Sad that the vaccine came too late for her.

5. sounds wonderful. you might be able to avail
yourself of this wonder drug, if you can book a cruise ship and get beyond international waters. So sad Cuba is treated with such contempt by our State Dept. Their cigars are the best in the world, and I bet their lung cancer vaccine would be even held in higher regard by those who might need the drug to remain alive.

7. Isn't it ironic. We don't allow trade with Cuba because they claim to be socialists and yet our
biggest trading partner is China, which still hasn't officially denounced Maoism, which will come back to bite the ruling class in the ass, mark my words.
