Photo of the Day (Japan)

Full moon tonight viewed through the gate of our local shrine. Below is the bridge leading to the mountain steps that go up to the shrine.

1. I have been wondering how you are doing over there?
You are in a wonderful position to tell us what is going on, what the mood of the people is, how families are faring, etc. I for one would really like to know.

2. It was really only northern Japan that felt any serious pain from the tsunami and nuclear disaster.
Japanese are not much into existential angst. They tend to move on, rebuild and do their best without deep weltschmerz.

Art for Arkansas had a great update recently. He was much closer to the action than I was.

Things are just fine here but the economy is not very strong. My island is aging and young people are disappearing as they are all over Japan.

Japan feels somewhat depressed in general to me, about hopes for the future. The politics are a circus and no one is having babies...

Other than that, things are fine. I am actually taking a bullet train to Tokyo tomorrow for the TGS games convention, so that will be fun!

4. Thank you for the info and the link to Art's thread.
I take it you are not concerned about going to Tokyo, radiation wise?

5. Not in the slightest.
Radiation levels are closely monitored and are no danger at all.
