A little inside scoop on why the crowd was so excited last nite ... |
|
Was listening to Stephanie Miller and someone from Tucson called in that was there last nite said the evening started out with Gabby's doctors walking in the arena. Nobody knew they would be there, but when they walked in the door, the whole place erupted into a standing ovation. And that set the tone of the evening.

1. Guess it's good that Christina's doctors didn't walk in, then. |
|
Would have been a totally different vibe . . .

this is very tacky and disturbing. I happen to live in Arizona and had worked on getting Giffords on my radio show with Gabe Zimmermann. He was a very nice and helpful young man who I found very likeable and someone I truly appreciated, and this certainly tore my heart up when finding out of his death. Thanks for your post to pour salt on the wound and thanks to the moderators for their insensitive lack of response. Certainly shows a lot of this site doesn't it, to allow such trash and insensitive stuff to remain even though some here might actually have lost someone we had some contact with. Way to go DU!!! Yes I am personally offended and hurt.

2. What folks seem to be forgetting about the shooting last saturday |
|
Is that there were some very heroic acts that took place by ordinary citizens. As I recall, people were all "rah rah rah" about the passengers who took down Flight 93 and no one seemed to think that was inappropriate. There was a lot of hard work done on Saturday. Yes, people were killed and people were injured but people pulled together to make a horrible situation better than it could have been. It's pretty clear that Loughner intended to create more carnage that day.
So, who am I to complain, or judge the tenor of the memorial service, because Arizonans are proud of their citizens and feel the need to cheer for their heroism? Since when did being proud of people become a bad thing? Just because some people felt it was an inappropriate setting for them to be proud? This is yet another thing wrong with the climate in America.

doctors are getting the recognition they deserve.

7. at first I was surprised by the tone of the people in the |
|
arena. But I think that the sense of community overcame their inhibitions and they had to share their encouragement. Besides, many of the people there were the students and they have much fewer inhibitions to begin with.

11. Compare this to the Va Tech shootings |
|
Va Tech had an event just like this...there were somber moments, tears, and cheers. It's not abnormal and it's a non-story, but I am sure Insanity, Bovine Boy, and the rest of the carnival barkers will attempt to use the moments of good cheer to show that Democrats like killing little girls, judges and Democratic politicians.

15. I expect the rw hate rhetoric to be in full mode today. Their idol made a complete fool out of |

herself, and Obama was brilliant.
