LOL! RUMSFELD Cancels His NYT Subcription In Protest Of KRUGMAN's "Repugnant Piece On 9/11"

Donald Rumsfeld Finally Cancels His New York Times Subscription

ERIK HAYDEN 11:13 AM ET

During his entire tenure with the Bush administration, Donald Rumsfeld apparently never canceled his subscription to The New York Times. And even earlier this spring when the Times skewered the former Secretary of Defense's memoir as a "tedious, self-serving volume," he seems to have endured. No more. Today, Rumsfeld finally had enough: his office tweeted: "After reading Krugman’s repugnant piece on 9/11, I cancelled my subscription to the New York Times this AM."

While Rumsfeld doesn't name the exact piece, it appears to be a blog post by Krugman on Sunday entitled "The Years of Shame" in which the liberal tears into "fake heroes" after September 11th who "raced to cash in on the horror." Krugman added: "And then the attack was used to justify an unrelated war the neocons wanted to fight, for all the wrong reasons." The short Krugman post is uncompromising, but doesn't seem too out of the ordinary for him. Maybe Rumsfeld just discovered his blog.

The Years of Shame
by PAUL KRUGMAN

http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/11/the-years-of-shame/

..............And you have to love Krugman’s, um, clarification:

It’s probably worth pointing out that I’m not saying anything now that I wasn’t saying in real time back then, when Bush had a sky-high approval rating and any criticism was denounced as treason. And there’s nothing I’ve done in my life of which I’m more proud.

10. Greg Sargent completely back Krugman up, with FACTS.... which is nice
But is it really a controversial assertion to say that conservatives seized on the intense focus on terrorism as a major national issue in the wake of 9/11 in order to gain political advantage?

Here’s Karl Rove in the runup to the 2002 midterm elections (via Nexis):

President Bush’s top political adviser said today that Republicans will make the president’s handling of the war on terrorism the centerpiece of their strategy to win back the Senate and keep control of the House in this year’s midterm elections.
“We can go to the country on this issue because they trust the Republican Party to do a better job of protecting and strengthening America’s military might and thereby protecting America,” Karl Rove said at the Republican National Committee meeting here.

Sargent goes on to quote Rudy (to Bernie Kerik  ) about thanking God that George W. Bush was President on 9/11 and Sargent cites McCain campaign adviser Chearles Black hoping for an attack.

17. "The memory of 9/11 has been irrevocably poisoned;"
" it has become an occasion for shame. And in its heart, the nation knows it."

I didn't know that. I'm quite proud of some american during that tragedy. the people on that plane that fought to regain control the people who worked at ground zero, and there are a million more.

and of course some used it to their advantaged but there is always the drunk relative at a funeral.
