If you're poor, disabled, sick & unable to work you should be ashamed
And according to the republicans in the audience of last night's debate, you should also just die, and in so doing, you should receive thunderous applause.

Maybe you weren't born a well-to-do republican in America. Maybe you're not exactly white, or not exactly wealthy, and not exactly in good health, well, fuck you, you don't even deserve to live, not even for 6 months if it means inconveniencing the lucky republicans.

Is it still considered bad taste to refer to republicans as Nazis?

Has it been so long ago that we forget that the Nazis felt the exact same way about those they considered less than perfect? Did we forget that they rounded up thousands of disabled people and put them to death? Then they did the same to homosexuals, intellectuals, jews, etc., but they started with the disabled.

Imagine your son or daughter suddenly facing 6 months of hospitalization, with no insurance, and being told by every clinic and hospital that your child can just go die. Or your husband or wife. Or your mom or dad. Or yourself.

Maybe there are even some of you right here who cannot afford decent medical care, through no fault of your own, who are worried sicker wondering how it'll all work out, and perhaps even feeling ASHAMED because you can't keep up, ashamed to go and ask for government assistance because of a sense of pride, or just knowing what a huge pain in the ass it is going through the system.

Applauding the metaphorical death of a poor man who can't afford health care is a new low for Americans. I am not that kind of American. I don't believe that a man should have to be ashamed because he is living in poverty and desperation, or that his fellow citizens should feel it necessary to look down upon him, or wish him dead even.

I took their ghoulish applause as a slap in the face, I took it personally, I am sickened to my stomach to even think that they might soon become very much like the Nazis our forefathers fought and died to destroy.

What the hell is America becoming, ten years after?

2. You could be a highly paid, well-insured GOP voter today and out of work,
uninsured, ill/injured/disabled tomorrow. And no matter how much money you have saved up, you probably don't have enough to pay expensive, long-term medical bills.

People don't realize how much their medical bills would be if they required serious care and were uninsured. Hundreds of thousands a year. Perhaps until you die.

It seems like every SSI applicant is refused at least once and has to appeal. Standard procedure now.

7. Applauding the metaphorical death of a poor man who can't afford health care
is a new low for Americans.

Apparently you didn't actually see the debate. Here was the question:

Blitzer >> You're a physician, ron paul, you're a doctor. You know something about this subject. Let me ask you this hypothetical question. A healthy 30-year-old young man has a good job, makes a good living, but decides I'm not going to spend 200 or $300 a month because I'm healthy, i don't need it. But something terrible happens, all of a sudden he needs it. Who will pay if he goes into a coma, who pays for that?

14. How is that relevant? The person doesn't want to pay for insurance
because he's young and healthy and is playing the odds.

There was nothing mentioned about the quality of medical coverage.

And just by the by, I pay $120 a month for my entire family's medical coverage not including dental.

29. Sorry for the delay, I'm at work and can't always reply promptly.
I have Aetna Choice through my employer.

It's a health savings account and does cost me $120 a month.

For any regular checkups, there is no deductible up to a certain number of visits.

My daughter had jaw surgery last year and it cost me about $200. This year she had a tonsillectomy and it cost me nothing.

I guess I'm very lucky.

47. I don't think you can compare yourself to the hundreds of thousands of Americans...
who either have to insure themselves or can't afford to. If you lose your job it could cost you $2000 a month to insure your family and your deductible would be a lot more than $200.

I honestly don't see your point unless you want to show how lucky you are while the rest of us go broke.

40. Check out how much the COBRA would cost you.
Our family ran a COBRA to the very end after which my wife and I graduated into uninsurability.

Fortunately my wife now has health insurance through her work, but we've never recovered financially.

If we'd lived in Canada at the time, with their national health plan, our health problems wouldn't be any less, but we wouldn't have been clobbered with bills we couldn't pay.

Our nation kicks people in the head when they are down. When people are sick or injured they shouldn't have to worry about medical bills and health insurance payments.

Health problems and accidents can happen to anyone. For the most part it's random shit falling out of the sky.

The U.S.A. is not a civilized nation because civilized nations have national health plans.

25. What's your total out of pocket for both medical and pharmacy if one of you becomes seriously ill?
Does your insurance have a maximum per year (in and out of network)? Does the company have a maximum lifetime limit that they will pay for an ill person's treatment? Many people have insurance that does not place a cap on maximum spending, and if a family member has a serious accident or illness it can become catastrophically expensive, very quickly.

34. Just for you, I went to my HR page
Out of pocket maximum per year is $4500 for family.

Lifetime maximum is unlimited except where otherwise noted. Whatever that means.

But almost all routine care is covered with the deductible waived. Anything above the deductible is 20%

44. Wow, only $120 a month for your entire family???
What is the name of your health insurance corporation? I think I will switch. My health Insurance corporations wrote me a letter and said I could put my 2 very healthy 20+ year old children on my health insurance. So, I went to their website and put in the info to insure them. I got back a letter saying it would cost me $12,000 a year for each child, that's $24,000 a year on top of what I already paid.

So, exactly where do you get your insurance from? A $120 a month is far, far cheaper than what I have.
