Concerned Women for America: Real Feminism Is Serving Your Husband

http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/concerned-women-america-real-feminism-serving-your-husband

-snip-

Janice Shaw Crouse of CWA told the Christian Post that feminism was initially a Christian movement until it “was taken over by lesbians.” According to Crouse, real feminist women in the workplace “don’t view their job as a career or they don’t see themselves as career women – they see themselves helping their husbands.”

Incidentally, Crouse is a PhD who has built a career working as an antifeminist – she is an author and former presidential speechwriter and currently directs CWA's Beverly LaHaye Institute. Her daughter is the president of Americans United for Life:

-snip-

“In general, Christian women are not in the workplace for power, they are there because they have some challenge, some very fulfilling responsibility,” adds Crouse. “Many Christian women choose to work part time, to bring in some extra income to help the family, but they don’t view their job as a career or they don’t see themselves as career women – they see themselves helping their husbands. It’s a completely different perspective from modern secular feminists, a fundamental disagreement and a different worldview about what it means to be a woman.”
------------------

ah yes, keep that man on a pedestal

I like the sight of a woman with a two edged ax chopping down that pedestal

rather than a woman prostrating herself before it

4. Oh good grief!
Too backwards even for words! I thought we fought and won the right for equality back in the 60's!!! How can attitudes such as this even still exist!

Rhetorical question, of course.

Wonder what she thinks about women, like me, who have chosen to remain single? I am divorced and have no intentions of ever remarrying again. I'm happy, I'm independent, I have a career which I enjoy, I have many good male friends, and that's my choice for living my life. So, up your nose with a rubber hose, Ms. Crouse.

5. Right, the only real feminism is what feminism was designed to prevent...
...perpetual domestic servitude.

My wife and I are a duocracy. I think I would go out of my mind if I had to live with a non-partner servant.

6. Technically
She's right. Latest of the 1800's and early 1900's - Feminism was centered around the Temperance/Anti-Alcohol AND voting thing. It was about 'solid christian white women'. It's this 'meme' that made it palatable to solid christian white southern women of high virtue.

Hence - why Ida Tarbell was asked to march at the back of the line . . . to keep it 'clean' if you catch my drift.

11. Beverly LaHaye - wife of Tim LaHaye, author of the "Left Behind" series.
This is also the group behind the "Spenditol" ads, all but pinning every red cent of the 14 trillion dollar debt on Barack Obama, ignoring the fact that he had to spend to save us from Bewsh's fuck ups and conveniently forgetting the past 30 years . . . you know, that time period where Republican Presidents were responsible for 73% of the current National Debt, much of it rang up BY CHOICE???

12. Funny how some self-proclaimed "liberals" will side with groups like CWA on things like censorship.
I've seen certain groups of "progressives" gush ecstatically over right-wing nutjobs like this when they argue for banning consensual adult porn.

What the goofy right wingers completely miss is that many of us that get married and raise kids put our families on that pedestal, and that goes for Women as well as Men.

22. Everything old is new again.....
Anita Bryant used to tout the same schtick, as did Phyllis Schlafly....for everyone but THEM.

Funny how they ran around the nation giving speeches on the joys of domestic life, while going from hotel to hotel where some poor maid cleaned their room and they were served their meals in splendor.

I'd probably have doubted their sincerity less if they'd given DEMONSTRATIONS rather than exhortations.

23. I remember a great t shirt from the Anita Bryant days.
Worn by a gay guy in my class at community college:

SQUEEZE A FRUIT FOR ANITA

She was endorsing Florida Orange Juice and making anti-gay comments in the 1970s.

28. Great - so we are back to having no identity of our own. We are
once again only defined by our husbands. These conservative women are merely trying to convince themselves that they are different. What they are advocating is that women go back to being second class citizens. Asking their husbands how to vote. Handing their paycheck over to hubby even if he uses it to go out and get drunk. Letting their husbands make all the decisions. NO THANK YOU.

36. "Concerned Women For America" are full of shit.
They're full of shit on this, and they're full of shit on everything else.

What they're doing is trying to tell other women what choices they should or shouldn't make, and how to live their own lives. That's fucked up authoritarianism, and I should think it's totally incompatible with any definition of 'feminism', no matter what the alleged justification is.
