NC just passed the bill to put Anti-gay amendment on the ballot
for all these years, we kept Dem control of the House/Senate - and were the only state in the South not to put one of these hateful amendments in our State Constitution.

There may be some truth that it doesn't matter who's in office, they all vote for their corporate masters (funders)

But there's some huge differences about what the Repugs are willing to do to others when they are in power vs what the Democrats do. Today is just more evidence of that.

House 75-47
Senate 30-16

1. Oh, goody, another state with its own Nuremberg Laws.
I was so mortified when Michigan passed its anti-gay constitutional amendment a few years back.

12. Wouldn't bet on it
I've lived in NC all my life, was proud that NC was a beacon of light in the otherwise Fundie South. Not now. The TeaKKKlanner Rethuggery has exploded here.

What's really sad is how many African Americans support this constitutional amendment. Homosexuality's a sin per their religious beliefs. Not so long ago, interracial marriage was against the law. I'm presuming memories are short.

7. This was my FB status on Monday - pretty much summed it up
Interesting that yesterday was supposed to be a day of unity for all Americans - yet today the NC legislature is voting on allowing some NC people to vote on the rights of other NC people just because they're gay and lesbian.

What a difference 24 hours makes - and how interesting that religious extremism is the root cause of both events...

8. I was thinking about this this morning -- I'm aghast that THIS
issue is what is getting people energized and gets their focus. Peoples' sex lives don't affect the masses, unemployment, rising costs DO - why aren't they focused on that? *shaking head smilie*

I'm so sorry to hear that happened. How do you think it will go when it's voted on?

People just piss me off SO much sometimes!

11. I may have to move!!!
The jobless rate is high here and budget cuts abound but what are we spending taxpayer dollars to legislate----marriage is one man one woman (which is already the law here). To top it all off I am being forced to join the abominable Patrick McHenry's district because part of the mountains are being put into his district. I feel like moving!

14. Shame, especially on any Democrats who supported this.
Is there a way that Gays can refuse to pay taxes there, and others who support them?

Taxation without Representation was the reason for the American Revolution.

It would be great if the people voted against it, but I don't know much about the electorate there.

18. Thank you.
More sorry excuses for Democrats. And people wonder why we are disgusted with this party, which always manages to provide just enough to vote along with Republicans to push through legislation that is supposedly not a part of the Democratic platform. So sick of watching this game they play.

19. sort of counters your point about the differences in what the
two Parties will do. Fact is, all the anti gay stuff passes because Democrats vote for it. Prop 8 passed on the votes of those also voting for Obama. Just how it is.

25. 100% of the GOP, who voted, voted for it
while less than 25% of Dems did. Pretty big difference.

26. The fact that we had Dem control of the House/Senate for 100+ years
is the reason this hasn't come up for a ballot vote before. And yes, we have our own 'blue dog' Dems who went along. But we always had plenty who killed this off in committee every year for the last 8

15. If the teapot is low on temest, just look to Repukes to recharge it.
Republicans are sick people, we know that. Screw the job issue. Forget the corporate destruction of America. Never mind the list of problems facing North Carolina and the nation. What is really important is who partners with whom. All this is for is to fire up the Republican hate-filled base. Ultimately this legislation does not reflect the real feelings of the people who pass it. No, it reflects the desire of Repukes to manufacture power for themselves.

20-something to 60-something. Some NC native, some not. EVERYONE was fuming about this decision, even one woman who tends to vote Republican. Hopefully Nancy McFarlane will win as Raleigh mayor come October 11th, and her office will get involved somehow in getting out the primary vote. The NAACP/Reverend Barber need to get involved, too. I need to check out some of the NC progressive blogs to see how they're organizing.

One thing is certain: the Koch brothers are pumping money into this state and the wackos will be voting en masse. This cannot pass.
