Senate Republicans block FEMA disaster relief funds

A package of disaster relief funding worth $7 billion was blocked from coming up for a vote by Senate Republicans on Monday, drawing sharp condemnation from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) who lambasted the conservative party for abandoning Americans in need.

"Last night, Democrats tried to move forward on a measure that would have granted the Federal Emergency Management Agency additional funding to help communities devastated by natural disasters," Sen. Reid said in an advisory.

"This ought to be the least political issue going – whether to reach out a helping hand to our friends and neighbors in their time of need," he continued. "They have lost friends and loved ones. Their homes, businesses and livelihoods have been destroyed by acts of god. Their communities are under water or reduced to rubble.

I wonder how many people who had their homes flooded voted for Pat Toomey to be their Senator. I hope they are pleased with themselves now. A Co-worker sent me some of the photos he took in Central PA and that area is just devastated especially around Hershey PA. Many of these people probably do not have flood insurance they need to fix their homes - why should they? The last time the Swatara Creek and Susquehanna River went bat-shit crazy was 1972 and Hurricane Agnes.

How people vote against what is their best interest just fricking blows my mind away. These tea party people aren't going to be come magically rich millionaires with the policies that the Tea Party wants to implement.

:grr:

1. Toomey can kiss my hairy ass. The only difference between him and Santorum isToomey LIVES in PA.
Our area got hammered and, as with most places, those who can least afford a disaster took the worst of the damage. They say the Susquehanna is a mile wide and a foot deep. While that is ALMOST true, it is close enough to true that it makes it a perfect candidate for flooding. What's even worse are the creeks that feed her. Most of those are rather wide and shallow as well so they tend to have wide flood plains. Holding back aid for political points is beyond sick.

Yo' Toomey - FUCK YOU!

4. Well, when their states are victims of a natural disaster,
they should be reminded through the media in their districts.
