I usually don't like Wolf Blitzer, but he did something that we can appreciate. |
|
For one moment, the idiots in Republican land, showed what they are really are. "Let em die." they shouted. Wolf asked the question. The idiots responded in time.

1. Unfortunately, too many Americans (republicans and some independents, I'm afraid) agree with |
|
the "Let 'em die" position. And they vote.

did us a favor by televising this. It's just another opportunity to familiarize those who don't pay a lot of attention to how really batshit insane the current crop of GOP candidates really is.
Also they provided lots of good material for Democratic ads.
These candidates are so outside of the mainstream that MSM viewers had a really good chance to see just how nuts these folks are and how far they are willing to go to pander to the lowest common denominator in our political discourse.

4. But Blister didn't ask the right question (or enough questions), imo. |
|
He should have asked "Who should pay for treatment when someone WHO CAN'T AFFORD insurance needs very specialized care to survive?" or....."Who should pay for treatment when someone WHO CANNOT GET INSURANCE AT ANY PRICE needs specialized care?" The answer to all of this is universal affordable care like civilized countries have. This should be what everyone takes away from this rancid situation.

5. Answer we already know |
|
"Who should pay for treatment when someone WHO CAN'T AFFORD insurance needs very specialized care to survive?" LET HIM OR HER DIE.
"Who should pay for treatment when someone WHO CANNOT GET INSURANCE AT ANY PRICE needs specialized care?" LET HIM OR HER DIE.
Perhaps Wolfie didn't ask the questions, as it was already clear what the answer would be, after that chillingly callous response from the audience.

7. I think you are correct, but what was asked, was fine with me. |
|
Because it has become a focus, of this problem, and similiar questions will be asked. Most major news sources covered that one moment. He opened up the door to look inside. Others will ask again.
When Katie Couric asked Sara, "What do you read" Could anyone thought that one question would open the door to Sara's demise?
Maybe this will reopen the door for universal health insurance in the USA. Maybe not, but we can hope.

12. He really framed it in a generous way for Republicans |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-13-11 08:35 PM by ThoughtCriminal
by using the example of somebody who could afford insurance, but chooses not to pay for it. It overlooks they far more common and hellish situation faced by millions who cannot afford insurance, are turned down for insurance or have insurance but are having claims disqualified by corporate insurance company "Death Panels".
He put the question in the most GOP friendly terms possible. And not by accident.

He framed the question as if it was a 30 year-old man who could afford it if he wanted to, but simply chose not to.
My futile hope is that someone, at a future debate, asks the question your way.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x616159"Let him die" isn't shouted, but he does ask "should we let him die?" and gets an enthusiastic yes from several people.

11. Thank you for acknowledging that "let him die" isn't shouted |
|
There must be a hundred posts here where people don't have any idea what question was asked, or how it was answered.
