Clint Eastwood against gay marriage bans
In typically gruff style, the actor told GQ: “These people who are making a big deal about gay marriage?

"I don’t give a (fuck) about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We’re making a big deal out of things we shouldn’t be making a deal out of … Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want."

Eastwood added: "I was an Eisenhower Republican when I started out at 21, because he promised to get us out of the Korean War.

"And over the years, I realized there was a Republican philosophy that I liked. And then they lost it. And libertarians had more of it. Because what I really believe is, let’s spend a little more time leaving everybody alone."

The veteran actor is promoting 'J. Edgar', his biopic about J. Edgar Hoover, who is thought to have been secretly gay. The screenplay was written by Dustin Lance Black, who wrote 'Milk'.

3. Speaking of gays and Clint Eastwood
Edited on Wed Sep-14-11 07:29 AM by CBGLuthier
Just last night I watched an episode of Maude where her neighbor was against a gay bar. Maude asked him something about it and he said, "You wouldn't ask Clint Eastwood a question like that."

Maude said, "No, but there is a question I would like to ask him."

She then sat there with a funny look on her face fantasizing about Clint Eastwood.

The neighbor created an organization to fight the gay bar and called it, I swear to god, Fathers Against Gay Society. The late 70's was such a strange time for sitcoms.

Anyway, good for Mr. Eastwood for denouncing the bigoted bastards who would probably assume he thinks like them.

5. It was one or two years prior to that episode that 'All In the Family'
another Norman Lear show, had featured the first actual gay characters in a sit com episode. Maude was the second. Ever.
Maude also had an episode in which she protested the then new, harsh Rockefeller Drug Laws in NY and the absurd punishments for marijuana.

15. Me too ...
I also respect Leonardo. After Titanic, I figured he'd go the "pretty boy" movie route, but he's taken on some great roles.

11. Hate to disappoint Clint but if Eisenhower was alive and in politics today he would have lost ...
to some idiot Tea Party nut job in the primaries.

Eisenhower republicans still exist today - they're called democrats.

12. Add one more name to the list.

The list of former Republicans who have been kicked to the curb by what remains of the
party they once believed in. How's that obstructionism working out for you clowns now?
