Missoni at Target Yesterday - Missoni at eBay Today
Edited on Wed Sep-14-11 08:19 AM by MineralMan
That's where all that stuff went. Target underpriced the stuff, so the eBay sellers bought it all, and it's on eBay today. Over 29,000 items.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p4712.m570.l1313&_nkw=missoni&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Not all of the stuff is attracting lots of bids, but some things are being bid up far above the Target price. Check out the bicycles. It's a phenomenon. Apparently the eBay sellers are better at assessing the market than Target is. Very interesting.

1. Wow...
That's some ugly shit.

I went on the Target Web site yesterday for something else and it was offline--the Missoni lemmings crashed it. :eyes:

2. Yah, I think it's ugly, too.
But ugly is in the eye of the beholder. The funny thing is that after a wild few days of sales on eBay, the market will dissolve. Then, the second wave of Missoni stuff at Target will get snatched up my other ebay sellers, who'll be eating the stuff instead of selling it. Target will order tons of Missoni stuff, and that won't sell, either. For Missoni, this will be a total disaster, since sales of their actual exclusive merchandise will plummet. "Oh, I never wear Missoni anymore. Once you could buy it at Target, what's the point."

I love retail fads.

4. I think I hate it because it looks way too familiar
Same color schemes (browns, oranges, golds) and patterns (knit zig-zags) in the '70s. Blech. Don't make me go through it all again--it was bad enough the first time. Of course, the young'uns will think it's the greatest, just as I thought, in the '80s, that the '50s revival was cool.

Still, next thing you know, they'll be pushing avocado and harvest gold appliances again... :puke:

5. Hey! What's wrong with harvest gold appliances.
That's what's in my kitchen. They're all still working, too. I do not, however, still have pink bathroom in my 1950s house. I replaced all that stuff.

7. I've never heard of Missoni before....
Some ugly stuff there. I think I'd by-pass it on a clearance rack/table.

8. Yah. The early 70s called and said,
"Jeez...this stuff was awful then. Zig-zag rainbows? Put down the bong and walk away."

10. Update!
I went to Target today (for non-Missoni stuff) and there were all of three items left on the Missoni rack--two hideous rayon zig-zag pattern miniskirts and a garish paisley blouse.

And then there were two items left...and a very, VERY unhappy-looking gentleman standing in line, on his cell phone, with one of the miniskirts in hand. You'd think his wife or GF had asked him to pick up some feminine products or sumpin'.

12. Hey, were any of those hideous rayon zig-zag pattern miniskirts a small?
Life is so unfair! I wanted one of those and since I had to work I was reduced to online. I couldn't even get on Targets website yesterday and by they time I thought if it today they were all out of stock.

Before ppl judge my taste you should know, I'm a huge thrift store shopper and retro is my style. It makes me happy. :)

14. I wouldn't get close enough to find out--sorry
If you like the designs, mazel tov and all that, but for me...nah. Like I said upthread, I had to endure it the first time around, in the '70s. ;) To each his/her own! :toast:

17. My lord, that stuff is butt-ugly. And apparently designed for pre-adolescents.
But then, I'm so un-hip it's a wonder my trousers stay up.

Whatever. I dressed ugly in the 70s and that was enough for a lifetime. Oh, and a short relapse in the 80s with those stupid-ass silk bow-tie thingies that were part of the pseudo-"menswear" look.

Amazing, what they can make us wear and do to ourselves.

It's so blissfully wonderful to be post-menopausal and sturdy and not give a rat's ass what people think about how I dress...

amusedly,
Bright
