The REAL reason Turner beat Weprin. The FEAR factor.
Turner beat Weprin for 2 reasons.

1-There was no primary, Weprin was appointed and not such a great candidate (yet far better than that weirdo Turner).
2-Weprin advocated following the Constitution while Turner and the GOP once again used FEAR on their constituents.

Here is the mailer the GOP was mailing out in the heavily Orthodox Jewish community running up to the election:

Yet another way the GOP is dismantling the very fabric of American society through fear and turning citizens against each other. We are on a slow death march towards a Fascist-Theocratic rule. Notice the exploitation of Ground Zero as well. Imagine, using the deaths of 3000 American citizens for political gain. ONLY the GOP would stoop to such bottom of the barrel tactics.

FEAR FACTOR!

1. i wonder how much money was put out by the right, comparative to the left.
one of the big issues is all the money that is being put into races by the right, due to the supreme court ruling

3. True. We could also point to low voter turn-out, sadly.

2. With such a large islamophobic population, who can be surpised...
Once again, a segment of the population voting against their best interests...Geebus.

15. Except Obama is the ONLY one with an actual jobs plan.
So if they're losing confidence in someone with a plan then you are saying those without a plan are gaining confidence? This country is so fucked!

16. Weprin did it to himself
This has nothing to do with the President. Local politics is local. Weprin is an idiot who does'nt know how to run a campaign.

6. There might be some credence to this proposition.
Weprin is also an orthodox Jew and he couldn't get that constiuency to back his candidacy.

7. fear factor? Yes, what kind of a person would use FEAR to advance their cause?
"We are on a slow death march towards a Fascist-Theocratic rule."

How does a fascist rule work, anyway? Is that where a 'leader' gets to decide over the 'will of the people'? Would that be fascism?

10. One might think
the Jewish community would vote for freedom of thought. One would apparently be wrong.

Kind of like running on a pro-choice platform in the Bible Belt.

11. Very low turn out, margin of victory very small
Apparently Democrats there could not be bothered to vote nor to get the vote out.

13. And here I thought it was because...
Weprin was a lame candidate with no interest in actually campaigning.

What was the orthodox turnout? They tend to vote the way their rabbis tell them to, and I hear the rabbis weren't too thrilled with Weprin.
