Get ready train commuters Republicans want to cut Amtrak by October 1, 2011 |
|
Guess I need to waste some time and write my tea bag idiot congressman for all the good it will do. See article: http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/09/13/2404602/amtrak-rolls-on-40-years-later.html

1. Are these people insane? |

OK, OK, it's a rhetorical question, but still - what the hell are they thinking? Amtrak is a valuable commuting asset. I just don't believe the short-sightedness of the teabaggers.

3. What they ultimately want to do is privatize the Northeast corridor and raise rates on commuters. |
|
Screw everybody else and punish the blue states who really pay most of the bills. Most third world countries have trains we will have less.

4. I think the point should be that this will have a negative impact on everyone, not just train users |
|
It costs the government less for people to use trains.
The difference is that the train subsidy is easier to calculate than the automobile subsidy.
With Amtrak all you have to do is subtract ticket revenue from operating expenses.
With cars you have to analyze the budgets of every government entity.
So basically, us taxpayers are gonna get screwed because there's no accurate accounting of how the government spends its money.
