Wingnut spin: "NY about OBAMA." Or about Fundie anti-Gay marriage?
Others have provided the demographics, a heavily Orthodox Jewish district that has been Dem for ever. So the Dem was a well credentialed Dem (not a weak candidate as some say), family Dem roots, AND an Orthodox Jew.

So the wingnuts claim this was a referendum on OBAMA over Jewish dissatisfaction over "Israel and the economy."

Does it make sense that an ORTHODOX JEW lost in an Orthodox Jewish district?!1 Oh, he was PRO Gay marriage. And the Rethug is an O'LOOFAH style Catholic "traditionalist" against Gay marriage who made that a main issue and papered the district with anti-G/m flyers.

O.K., may we modestly suggest it just might not be about OBAMA?!1 At least a bit?!1

1. Its natural the winger say this

Reverse the tables and we'd be going on about the same thing.

This loss is NOT pretty for Democrats. Spin it how you want, to have a Dem district of 90 years suddenly flip to Republican is a bad thing.

Its not the end of the world, but ITS NOT GOOD.

It was NOT good when Kennedy's seat went to a Repuke...but fortunately that is going to change...I think this district will as well.

but for the here and now, there is nothing good that can come from it..

5. What are you talking about??
This seat is set to disappear in the redistricting! Not only that, but Rep. Weiner's constituents are PISSED OFF AS HELL that the Democratic Party refused to stand up for theirs.

Hell, if I were a voter in that district, I would've stayed home, too. And let's not forget...the House is firmly in Republican hands, so I don't see the "nothing good can come from it" at all.

Stop being such a defeatist.

2. Twist and spin you want, the fact that repug can control the debate says a lot
Maybe the sun was in their eyes, there was a bump in the turf. Use whatever excuse you want, the fact that we lost a democratic seat because ot the absolute ineptitude of Washington Democrats is the real reason.

4. A loss is a loss and I still feel the losses after so many Dem losses in my life. But
which in my little nuggets are not true (and therefore "spin")?!1 There are doubtless other factors, like, maybe some of WEINER's supporters felt abandoned or betrayed, either by him or by our cutting him loose?

Gee, I am just your average Professional Lefty with a low wage

job part-time to make ends meet after being unemployed for three years, with no health insurance to speak of, with sick relatives trying to stay alive and in their home.

Oh and before you ask/offer advice, no I will not tell you what I did, no, I will not tell you the part-time job I have now, no, I am not in my profession, yes, I went to college, no, there is no "help" from agencies for people like me, yes, I care for an elderly mother, no, I am not a paid troll, yes, I am gay, no I was not a fan of warren as a choice, yes, I will vote for Obama no matter what, no he will not get re-elected, yes there ARE other Democrats like me, oddly, and thank you for your concern in your quest to make Obama look good, no matter what the facts are.

*************UNQUOTE*************

I had interpreted your post as gratuitously snarky, but now can appreciate where you're coming from. I'm not nosy, just Searched because I wanted to understand and if I had Replied without Searching, it would have been a brawl and I'm really tired of being flamed. O.K., so all's cool with me!1

7. All politics being local
let's not forget that the people of District 9 stood by Rep. Weiner on average at 70%, and did NOT want him to resign. The Democrats pushed and pushed and pushed until he had no choice, much to the fury of the majority of his constituents. If I could see that all the way in Southern California, then I'm pretty durn sure they could see it, too.

If the ineptitude of Washington Democrats is the reason, that reason is because they failed to stand by their own and instead, tossed him out. It's a message for sure, one with minimal loss to the Democratic Party (since that seat is set to expire anyhoo), but it's a message nonetheless.
