Hill Dems pick apart Obama jobs plan
Edited on Wed Sep-14-11 07:46 AM by Freddie Stubbs
Source: Politico

President Barack Obama’s new jobs plan is hitting some unexpected turbulence in the halls of Congress: lawmakers from his own party.

As he demands Congress quickly approve his ambitious proposal aimed at reviving the sagging economy, many Democrats on Capitol Hill appear far from sold that the president has the right anecdote to spur major job growth and turn around their party’s political fortunes.

“Terrible,” Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) told POLITICO when asked about the president’s ideas for how to pay for the $450 billion price tag. “We shouldn’t increase taxes on ordinary income. … There are other ways to get there.”

“That offset is not going to fly, and he should know that,” said Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu from the energy-producing Louisiana, referring to Obama’s elimination of oil and gas subsidies. “Maybe it’s just for his election, which I hope isn’t the case.”

18. DINO might be going too far here,
but Blue Dog would certainly be close to the truth. I wonder how many at DU who might want to beat Obama over the head with this, are otherwise venomously critical of Blue Dogs (or DINOs)

Scorn and disrespect. Sounds like every-man-for-himself time.

A mess.

7. When the President's popularity is in the tank, it is every man for himself for those who
who do not represent overwhelmingly Democratic districts/states.

9. The Hill Democrats are very good at forming circular firing squads
and shooting themselves. They do not need the GOP
to create problems for themselves.

14. BWAHHHAAAHAHA
> HOW ABOUT COMPROMISING WITH DEMOCRATS for a change????

Democratic policies haven't had a say in the running of this country since FDR, later JFK, some LBJ, and a bit of Carter. It's corporate plutocracy full steam ahead now.

16. "The right anecdote"? -- did they fire all the proofreaders?
Between that and the Daily Mail story about Sarah Palin's "elicit affair," I'm thinking that all the proofreaders have been laid off and we're at the mercy of spellcheckers gone mad.

Just one more thing that makes me want to say "to hell with the news" and go outside and enjoy the weather on this last summer-y day instead.

17. Oh for God's sake
stop thinking about your bloody selves and think about the country.

No to increasing taxes - what's your answer then Webb, stick a tooth under your pillow for the tooth fairy to come along

No to elimination of oil and gas subsidies - Landrieu who never met an oil/gas company she didn't like.

19. According to Politico, Landrieu is a moderate Democrat. Media is so dishonest.

At least they did describe Ben Nelson as a conservative Democrat, though.
