Keeping Christ in Christmas. They never had to remind us before.
I'm a Christian. I went to Catholic school where nuns taught class. Even went to church every Wednesday, which was okay with me because we had to walk to church and it was a nice change of scenery.

Here's the thing. We never had to be reminded to put Christ back into Christmas. You know why? Because this was the time of the year when we stopped to show goodwill to our fellow man, to reflect Christ's teaching. In other words, it was the one time of the year when you could expect Christians to act like Christians.

If anyone has taken Christ out of Christmas, it's the Republicans. They are demanding, unkind to their fellowman, uncompromising and greedy. If anything, they are anything but Christlike.

So, to show Republicans that we are paying attention, why don't we post in this thread, the Christlike qualities that they continue to ignore on this coming festive occasion.

I'll go first. Republicans are not good Christians because they continue to stereotype, claiming that everyone who gets a welfare check, is a lazy bum. This hides their true intent that they just don't want to give the government any tax money. Greedy and mean are not Christian values.

2. I'll add that commercialism of an otherwise religious holiday and its season
"took Christ out of Christmas". When you have decorated Christmas trees up at Labor Day, stores blasting Xmas songs and carols after Halloween, and news reports obsessed with the economy dependent upon how many presents we buy, it's not about Jesus Christ anymore.

Here in north Jersey, there was a church with a minister who turned off his congregants on Christmas Eve because he reprimanded them for not doing enough for the unfortunate, the poor, the sick. They didn't want to hear that. They wanted Joel Osteen redux where God loves you and gives you money to prove it.

Christmas with Christ? I'd say you'll find it in homes that celebrate the holiday Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, perhaps give one present per person, and truly are glad to have one another.

3. The Joel Osteen "Christians" have been decieved into believing that 'God' rewards them
with material wealth. I say their supposed nemesis of the material world, Satan, is the "God" giving them their "rewards". Their actions speak much louder than any words ever could.

I don't believe in 'God' or 'Satan', but if they were paying attention they would see how anti-Christ-like they are in their actions.

Bizarre world when extreme materialism = 'Christianity'. They ignore their own Christ's gnostic based teachings.

4. Blessed are the peacemakers
Republicans are not Christian (and neither are many Democratics) who promote war for profit. Plus greed is mixed in the deal (what is our oil doing under their sand?).

than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

7. Funny thing about that: Christ was inserted into a Pagan holiday
Edited on Thu Dec-16-10 08:52 AM by ixion
a.k.a. The Winter Solstice, by 'The Church' way back when. They've done that to all the Pagan holidays. Just as most of the iconography for 'The Devil' was lifted, conveniently, from Pan.

12. The "christ in christmas" crowd has been around a long time.
Just last week I saw a series of photos my home town's 1962 xmas parade. Almost 50 years ago and several of the entries had signs saying "Keep Christ in Christmas".

Then it was the "godless commies" that were supposedly trying to subvert "christian" traditions. The new whipping boy is called "militant atheism".

16. There we go. That's our winning slogan.
What's the name of DU's online store? Maybe someone needs to come up with something witty. Something that will directly show that Republicans in Congress are not acting Christlike.

And I'm going to take a wild guess that they were harping on it way before that.

20. Not a ONE of them
are true Christians. None of them are following Christ's example of kindness, forgiveness and charity. "That which you do for the least of your brothers you do for me" "Ye who is without sin, cast the first stone" I dont know the citations by heart but the idea is there. These bible thumbers do not follow Christ or even try to emulate his philosophy.

example: getting angry at stores who say Happy Holidays instead. To me, this is another example of how intolerant these right wing fascists are.

^snip^

31When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

32And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

33And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

28. Christmas isn't even a Christian holiday.
They stole it from pagans. Every last goddamn detail from Christmas came from a pagan religion, from the Christmas tree, to the yule log, to Santa Claus himfuckinself.

If you want the "Christian values" to permeate our society, get your own fucking holiday.
