I have decided, I am going to be one of those old Socialists... |
|
You know the type - dying while reading and listening to Jazz.
Full Max Roach collection on vinyl.
Ideas out of step with "Modern America©"
Ideas out of step with one's kids.
Ideas out of step with everyone else.
And sitting alone, drinking dry vermouth, dying in a musty corner of some bookstore that I may or may not own.
Welcome to 21st Century America, my comrades.

I get the Fellowship of Reconciliation and read their obituaries; incredible how often activists live into their 80's and 90's, raising hell. Sacred activism might by the fountain of youth.

14. Raging against the Iron Heel can indeed give life. |

Plus many of us are health freaks, exercise nuts, runners, vegetarians, vegans, heavy smokers and drinkers that are immune to cancer and cirrhosis etcetera, so when avoiding accidents we might just live longs lives.

But my music would be some Rolling Stones. Just reading, listening, and thinking. I could get used to that.

10. If Max Roach is being out of step, well being in step isn't where I want to be. |
|
Being a serious bike rider, I've always been out of step with THIS society.
I think socialism can only function properly in a society that is mature enough to appreciate it.
Having always been out of step, and having grown up in a progressive neighborhood, I see no way to be in step with the American culture.
And in a selfish way, if there were no place for being out of step I wouldn't have a little corner to myself like you mention in your bookstore.
I guess the dream is finding a way to get the rest of those who are all in step to start stepping in a different and better way. Imagine if we were all stepping together in a good way. But that's a long discussion. No Big Macs. Few cars. More dense forests. More people on bikes. Representation. And Lee Morgan on the radio.

Thank goodness for my wife Stephanie who tolerates my Marxist rantings and ravings as well as my co-workers who typically do the same.
It's sort of like living in 1904 Russia without at least the future of an attempted and failed revolution in 1905...yeah.
