I have gone from an Independent, |
|
to a Democrat, to a Progressive, to I suppose, a Socialist in my OLD AGE. Bernie Sanders is my HERO. ROFL So much for getting more conservative as you grow older. They probably think I am senile and should be committed, or at the very least, not competent to vote.

1. The older you get the more benefits you receive from the Government. |
|
We spend 4 dollars on the elderly vs 1 dollar for the young.
It actually makes sense from a beneficiary point of view that the older you get the more progressive/left you get.

He voted for Reagan once. By the time he died, he was more liberal than I am. :)

Then I read more and studied.
Now I'm a moderate; I'm pretty fiscally conservative on certain issues and socially liberal(support gay marriage, support abortion even though am personally against it, etc)
.
I'm apparently a:
-Republican talking head -Paid by the Koch brothers -Agent of the patriarchy -wingnut -Right-winger -Douchebag
...the names just roll on in!

I believe the government should be involved in things like health care and education and things like that.
I just don't support government picking winners in the economy. And all the useless red-tape regulation - form after form after form.

6. My children think I have lost it. I spend all my |

time blasting Republicans. My son said to me a couple years ago. But, Mom, you always told us to vote Republican. I told him I had awakened to real life and now he should vote Democratic. My grandchildren stand by and snicker. So conservatism does not go along with old age.

7. Here's something that I don't understand. |
|
There has to be Republican's, and Tea Party people that are middle class and poor, so what do they think of the absolute bullshit that their leaders come up with? Their belief is that only the fittest shall survive, everyone for themselves.

to be independent is to be malleable. We need to fight, and sometimes that means standing together and not let our overlords use the media to mold us. They hinge their rape of this country, and Americans on the malleable.
Fight.

|
One needs common decency & common sense to be a socialist.
"Social" is a very positive, inclusive word & I'll accept the Socialist label gladly.

Been to Vermont many, many times when I lived in NY and my daughter played hockey there. Beautiful state, and wonderful people. Would I move there over Flordia?. In a heartbeat. Bernie, and the state, care about PEOPLE. That is enough for me.

20. The older you get, the wiser you get |
|
If you've learned from your mistakes and don't get brainwashed by the teevee.
So yes. When you are two years old, you are a staunch republican. That's why they call it the "terrible two's". Then as you mature, you eventually become a progressive, barring any heavy blows to the head or other brain trauma (like Fox News).
Does it have to do with the fact you get money from the government? Perhaps. But it shouldn't because it's not really enough. Unless you are a politician of course.

23. got an interesting phone call last night from a very conservative former coworker |
|
very dear man.
anyway, last night he calls me to tell me he no longer is at work because he had a rather bad stroke. He seems ok but memory and concentration are pretty bad.
He hopes to be able to drive again--going back to work seems a distant and unlikely hope.
the teabagger owner is going around telling the other employees that it is prob good that Jimmy is gone so that he does not have to pay his salary anymore.
Jimmy is looking at getting disability. I told him that the process will turn him from being a republican and send him thru being a democrat and drive him all the way to being a socailist. i think he is starting to understand--really too bad it took a stroke to do it.

Most of the people I know that get burned by the system "wake up" from their sleepwalking.
It's unfortunate, but true nonetheless- you can't understand/empathize with someone until it happens to you.
