Texana Hollis, 101-Year-Old Evicted Woman, Is Getting Home Back
DETROIT -- A 101-year-old woman who was evicted from her longtime Detroit home after her 65-year-old son failed to pay the mortgage is getting it back, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said Wednesday.

Texana Hollis was evicted Monday and her belongings were placed outside the home where she had lived for nearly six decades. Her son Warren Hollis said he didn't pay the bill for several years and disregarded eviction notices.

HUD spokesman Brian Sullivan told The Detroit News on Wednesday that the department would pay the taxes, remove the padlocks from the doors and let Texana Hollis return to the home.

Sullivan said the department has told family members that Hollis can return to the house as soon as she is released from Henry Ford Hospital, where she was taken after the eviction.

1. Her son should have not refinanced the house in 2002, but I'm glad she's getting it back, poor lady!

2. It was a reverse mortgage, not a refinance.
Moreover the problem was a failure to pay property taxes. One would think with two social security checks and a reverse mortgage there was some income there

3. Good news, but why is HUD involved?
I thought the home was seized for back taxes. Isn't that the jurisdiction of the city of Detroit? How did HUD get into the act?

However it happens, I hope the outcome is ok. And that she didn't have too much stress from all this excitement.

:hi:

4. I think Part of HUD legislation provides for assistance with
Housing funding for the elderly.
