Did I just hear what I thought I heard? |
|
I'm in the next room, but I swear I heard Willard Romney utter a long list of bad things Obama has or hasn't done and end it with "and he wants to cut Medicare." It was on Morning Joe. If this was what he said, I'm afraid Mr. Obama will rue the day he ever suggested doing anything but keeping Medicare strong. As many of us predicted.

8. He's Painted Himself In A Corner... |

The smartest guy in the room is becoming too smart by half. While I was for some compromise as that's how our system of government works and works best, but with an opposition that has shown time and time again they won't move an inch, the compromises now look weak and being twisted to make the smart guy look stupid.
The gridlock ensures nothing moves...and the more this administration tries to force the issue, the worse it will get.

The DLC has been attempting to gain full control over the Democratic party and implement their program of Republican lite for years - post-partisanship, competency over ideology, jettisoning the "baggage" of the "special interest groups" - such as for example Labor, teachers, environmentalists - privatization, free trade, partnering with and cooperating with big finance and industry, and pandering and appealing to the conservatives. Obama was hand-picked and groomed to lead this effort. The problem is that he was elected at a time of crisis and the DLC formulas have been like pouring gasoline on a raging fire, the "post-partisan" efforts to appease Republicans have failed, the economic crisis is growing, and the base has been "thrown under the bus." Yet Obama ever could have been elected were there not a concerted PR effort all through the campaign to convince the base that traditional Democratic party constituencies would be represented and traditional Democratic party principles would be honored.
We do not want to see Democrats fail, nor do we want to see the Republicans win, however we blame the DLC and not the base for the revival of the fortunes of the Republicans, and we do want to see the DLC and their agenda fail - for the sake of the party and for the sake of the everyday people in the country.

Saddened, continually frustrated, angry, despondent, and worried. Excited implies a feeling of positive anticipation. I don't think anyone here is looking forward to another Republican presidency, but Obama's continuing tack to the right is making it possible.

It's his baby, these cuts to 'entitlement' programs. He continues to suggest and suggest these cuts.
He owns this.
Hope he is excited about his bi-partisan tactics with repub snakes who want nothing more than to see him fail and fail big.

Nobody would usually care about saying that bodily function and the third rail, but if it is critical of the administration then suddenly the phrase is incredibly gross and alert worthy.

He shouldn't have the permission, even as the President, to break one of the sacred party planks like that. It has fucked with the "brand" that the Democratic party has represented for as long as I've been alive, at least.
And the ripping into the Democrats for doing it started on the Senate floor not long after with John McCain and Dick Durban sparring.
