I challenge Keith Olbermann and the brains behind Currant TV to be bold and
move Keith Olbermann into a early morning program.

I love Keith, but frankly I am not driven away from Lawrence, i do not feel compelled to quickly find the remote in order to "get him off immediately". I guess that makes me lazy.

I am not a "sitter" when the TV is on, especially at 8pm Eastern time. I usually fidget with last minute chores, answering email and really don't sit to actively watch a program until later in the evening. Mostly, I listen for a segment that might interest me and stop to pay attention.

Not so in the morning.

It would be awesomely awesome if I could find an alternative to anything that's on in the early morning.

MSNBC has established a morning show that has talkers talking in a folksy tone, and to the casual listener, the folksy stories they tell sound plausible but are really pure home-spun bullshit. They get away with manipulating the truth and are GOP butt-boys.

But I don't think a Countdown type format would hack it as a early morning program...and more than that, i don't think Keith Olbermann would abandon his comfort zone.

But give me an alternative to any other early morning program, and I'm there in a heartbeat.

:dunce:

1. Wouldn't that limit his audience greatly?
How many people watch morning TV? Repeats played at night would not be current information. I like KO where he is.

8. Current could probably pick up DemocracyNow
but then DN! hits all sides.

15. Current TV could use DN, and ANY other programming other than the stuff they have on now.
Keith Olbermann cannot carry them on his back, especially if many of the viewers of his program do not tune in when it is live, but manage only to catch reruns.

I am looking for a network to kick Morning Joe's ass by providing viewers with a choice.

Joe has free reign to spin his GOP talking points and I am sick of it. It is NOT enough to turn him off, I already do that.

I want a choice that right now, does not exist.

23. I was thinking about the Sundance Channel and how so many of us
do not get that in our regular packages. There might be something there that would be worth putting on Current TV also. It would be nice to see all the left-leaning channels working together to educate: Link, Current TV, Sundance, and all those I cannot remember.

I like to have am tv on as I get ready for work or do my house chores. I just cannot stomach Morning Joe. I would love to wake up to an alternative .

5. Well I don't know how his ratings are, and he may be doning just fine, but
I never remember to put him on, and I don't think I am alone.

Very few other like minded people I know, remember to put him on.....and those same people like me, hate every early morning program that is on....

Maybe not Keith, but Current TV would be very smart to put on an early morning program to challenge the crap that is on now.

6. Well I was thinking early morning TV. There is an entire segment of the population that flip it
on while getting ready for their day.

Maybe I am barking up the wrong tree. I noticed someone unrec'd my OP. Good grief, it was just a thought.

3. I just want to challenge him into actually putting the whole show on podcast.
Like his old MSNBC one.

I'd love to be able to see it but, as I have no access to Current, it makes it quite difficult.

7. i don't think he can or else it would be. i was mad too that i couldn't get it like i do my other
stuff, but i don't think they can do that. I watch olbermann the next day if i remember. just like i watch rachel maddow the next day because I don't have cable or satellite. I always had a hard time watching olbermann at 8pm anyway because I have to put kids to bed at that time. better to be able to watch later.

I'd like to see Schuster do an hour of news at 7, with maybe another show at 6.

12. If Current TV picks up and expands, Olbermann might have someone to
cover the morning news talk show. Let's hope he does. Then both you and he
will be satisfied. :)

13. I agree, early morning cable programming is ripe for something new. Additionally,
Current TV would benefit in having it!s profile elevated, and in turn, Countdown would stand the chance of benefiting too!

14. That would be a complete waste of talent...most folks I know that watch morning tv..
...see it for about 20 minutes before rushing out the door to get to work/get the kids to school...perhaps a 'liberal' alternative to the right-wing noise-makers in the am would be a good idea, but it would have to be more 'light and fluffy' than Countdown..

17. I Agee, but absent from the discussion is the fact that the casual viewer in
the morning can only turn into GOP taking points...which when presented in the Morning Joe format, can do a tremendous amount of damage in 20 minutes.

20. My original thought was Keith just to get the conversation going, but a Ron Reagan
or any other dynamic, informed and appealing personality will do.

i hate Morning Joe, but he is effective with low information voters.

To do Morning Sedition :)

I miss that show so much from AAR and it'd be humorous but still cover the issues.

21. Morning 'news' is TV's backwater.
Current is going to have lots more news programming in time. O'Donnell's show gets very low numbers, and 'beating' him is no accomplishment at all. Larry has an audience that is habitual MSNBC at that time, and why? Keith Olbermann, that's why. O'Donnell is still sitting in Keith's slot. How he'd do on his own, at some random time is still to be seen. He is not a proven entity at all.

26. here is a show I would love to see: A rotating panel of various lefties
Edited on Thu Sep-15-11 10:26 AM by rurallib
discussing issues for about 2 hours each morning.
Let me propose say 3 members per day. This would give each an opportunity to expand subjects and to comment on each others.
- a small but engaged audience could ask questions. Guests could be brought in for a segment.

Let me propose that panels be composed of lefties from various walks - eg bloggers, politicians, writers, Tv and radio, local politicians, Europeans lefties, Canadians

For instance a panel of Matt Taibbi, Josh Marshall and Russ Feingold.
Avi Lewis, Rachel Maddow, Paul Begala
Naomi Klein, Tom Harkin, Ed Rendell
Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann, the Rude Pundit
Markos Moulitsis, Richard Trumka, David Allen

I think you get the idea - no permanent panel, no shouting, no interrupting

ETA - republicans could not do this, they must only have those who toe the party line.

his show broadcasts at 8:00 PM, followed by re-runs at 11:00PM, 1:00 AM and, I believe 9:00 AM the next day. Check your listings.
