Did you know that campaign finance reform is a "leftist" concept and that it stifles free speech? |
|
The Constitution says so.
:eyes:
I was just informed of this, based on this passage:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances". The Constitution cannot be more clear than this,.
Based on the above, campaign finance reform stifles free speech.
Again....:eyes:

1. If you count money as speech, |
|
then yes the assertion is correct, but MONEY IS NOT SPEECH. And anyone who thinks it is should be confined to a mental institution.

2. The old "money is speech".. This should not stop efforts to |
|
democratize campaigns. Money can be a corrupting force.

3. I suppose this is the same Constitution that says corporations are persons. |
|
I'm not familiar with that one. That's the Roberts' court one.

5. Wow, it figures. The person who said this is a bank examiner... |
|
with The Federal Reserve.
The fun continues with this response to term limits (which I initially thought, in my profound ignorance, he was advocating):
"Nowhere does the Constitution say term limits. Allow people to make that judgment after they hear all sides make their case to people (which requires money). And allow the people to make the judgment whether a politician is doing the bidding of special interests or their interest. Those who advocate campaign finance reform do not trust the people. And besides, Obama already put an end to this bad idea in 2008 as he raised enormous sums."

6. Why yes, I did know that it 'stifles free speech', because the SCOTUS said so. |

4 panels - Panel 1; a packet of cash sitting on a stool in front of a microphone. In the box at the top of the panel "It is claimed that money equals free speech, so let's listen:" Panel 2; it sits there, no caption Panel 3; it sits there, no caption Panel 4; empty stool in front of a microphone. In the background, figure of a man with GOP on his back is walking away with the money poking out of his jacket pocket.

10. Unions and Citizens' United: |
|
Interesting observation. While unions stood to benefit, along with corporations, from the Citizens' Union ruling, isn't it interesting that there was/is such a coordinated attack on unions after the recent elections?
