"But we live in a democracy, and at the end of the day, I can't do this all by myself under our democratic system. If we're going to do big things—whether it's passing this jobs bill, or the DREAM Act, or comprehensive immigration reform—we're going to have to get Congress to act." —President Obama, speaking at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Gala.

3. How is it a democracy? |
|
Patriot Act ended many of our civil rights; the voting machine is hackable and election tallies are altered.
And for the most part, only people in cahoots with the Biggest Corporations are in a position to run for office. Any individual's effects at the polling place is stripped of any meaning by the fact that it costs a person one billion dollars to run for the Presidency, and in some states, close to one hundred million to run for the Senate.
And that makes this system of government far closer to the definition of fascism than to democracy.

We have a winner! You hit the dented nail of American democracy on the head.

Even at the height of our democracy we were still under the dictatorship of capital. Until we abolish capitalism, we will never have democracy.

14. The problem with our system is that it has lacked fair representation for just under a century. |
|
And has become increasingly corporatist. See this post here: http://journals.democraticunderground.com/joshcryer/116The only reason capital is an issue is because it is disproportionately powerful politically speaking.

17. Lazy, giving up language |
|
Trying to justify sitting back, doing nothing and playing the victim. This kind of thinking allows us to be pointed at that we have our crazies, too. The Tea Party is hardly less insane on their end.
