To all the people complaning about illegal immigrants taking jobs and not speaking English. I agree |
|
Only the native people of America should live here so everyone who isn't a full blooded Native American needs to get their ass back to Europe. I guess I'll be in England. "God save the Queen." Seriously, I love how stupid the right-wing is on this issue. Most of us are not from here, we came here and stole this land from the native people and killed them and then the Teabaggers have the nerve to complain about "illegal immigration."

5. The Eskimos, who were driven into the Arctic. |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-15-11 09:19 PM by provis99
Later Indian immigrants, who came thousands of years after the first wave, like the Algonquins and Iroquois, took land from the original Indian immigrants in turn.
All this talk about who is an immigrant and who conquered who is a little silly. Frankly, most of the white people would have to leave and go back to Central Asia, since that is where Indo-Europeans originated. White people aren't even native to Europe.

18. No, the only real connection with the north is the Navajo nation |
|
and Din'eh is a dialect of Athabascan, spoken in the interior of Alaska. In fact, tribal people from Alaska and Navajos can get the drift when they try to talk to each other, although it's like a French speaker talking to a Spaniard: for every analog, there's something totally foreign.
Likely the First Americans island hopped just like everybody else did, going by sea and following sea life instead of trying to go across a thin land bridge in a forbidding climate. In fact, some early skulls on the west coast that were mistakenly seen as typically European were later found to be related to a tribal people in Japan, the Ainu. There was also quite likely more than one southerly route followed by Pacific Islanders. And there were quite likely Europeans following sea life to the east coast and intermarrying when they got here.
This continent has always been pretty mixed, simply the last place the great migration out of Africa found and settled. However, we're all African if we go back far enough.

didn't slaughter people to get this land.

However, the fact remains we stole this land from the natives, we killed them and pretty much destroyed their culture. We have no right to be whining about illegal immigrants.

11. read War Before Civilization. |
|
Slaughter between individual Indian tribes was more vicious that the wars with the Europeans; they checked the bodies in pre-European arrival burial grounds, and found out most had been killed in violent deaths, while violent deaths decline as a proportion of total deaths as European immigrants moved in. And Indian bands regularly annihilated rival tribes and stole their land.
Even today, the Mohawk reservations in New York and Quebec sit on land that the Mohawks stole from other Indians.

If they don't want to print DMV forms and ballots in foreign languages so they don't get to drive or vote... unless they understand English...
Then... no printing of IRS forms in foreign languages so they don't "get" to pay Federal Income Taxes unless they understand English?
"Taxation without representation is tyranny"... after all.

I am a firm internationalist. I don't accept that people have a right to deny others the ability to live or work where they wish simply because they weren't born in a certain geographical location.

22. Not even remotely true. |

There are ways to fix our unemployment, using illegal immigrants as a scapegoat isn't one of them. Here are a few ways: Create a national works program, reinstate tariffs on foreign goods, raise taxes on the rich to encourage investment, pass requiring American companies to offer the same benefits and wages to workers overseas that they are required here.

24. I don' think capital should be able to move wherever it wishes. |
|
I don't even think capital should exist. However as long as it does, we need to put as many safeguards and regulations on it as possible to help the working class. Ultimately we need to abolish the capitalist mode of production itself.

and the the Border Patrol, and just letting anyone from anywhere freely come to the US to live?
Or, if someone wants to come here, they should get an army together and conquer the US?
I usually agree with your posts, and I realize that you are being somewhat deliberately facetious, but what do you see as a viable alternative to the current legal situation regarding the migration of folks from other lands?
Indigenous peoples of the Americas fought to the death to try to keep European colonists from taking the land before being pretty much collectively slaughtered into submission.
The biggest mistake indigenous peoples of the Americas may have made was to be being kind, at first, to the greedy, bloodthirsty, clearly sociopathic Europeans that would eventually murder every man, woman, and child in some villages, and then take the land for their own.
Like Thanksgiving and all that.
Using indigenous peoples as an example is, IMO, not a good way to make any kind of point regarding the migration of people from other lands to this land.
I don't know the answer, and the Teabaggers certainly don't have it, but what is workable?
