I am not rich, yet I am a JOB CREATOR!!!! |
|
I never realized this. Imagine that? Let me explain. I own a home in a gated community which has a Home Owners Association. We have a community clubhouse and restaurant. We have a private golf course. In order to run all these facilities, a lot of people have to be EMPLOYED. Jobs have been created for cooks, waiters, cleaning help, receptionists, accountants, golf course personnel, landscapers, etc, etc. This community employs at lot of people. Has a rich person, making profits, created all these jobs? Absolutely not. Several hundred homeowners through their association dues are creating these jobs and paying these workers salaries. The HOA does not make profits from this "business". This community is a non-profit entity, and very, very few of us homeowners are RICH.
Yep, only RICH people (or bad government) create jobs.

The desk that resides in a corner of a spare bedroom represents job creation. Never mind that it doesn't generate enough $$$ to pay basic living expenses. I use it to generate whatever funds I can while I look for a real job paying a living wage. Based on my income I am officially poor - and I too am a job creator.

3. People having money to spend create jobs. I have been restoring my 153 yr.-old house for almost |
|
16 years. In June, I had a team of 10 guys come from Little Rock and spend 8 days (7AM-7PM) taking off my siding and putting up OSB, foam insulation, house wrap, and new James Hardie siding. They stayed at the local motel and ate at the local restaurants, bringing more money and jobs into the community. So, I guess I'm a non-rich, non-corporate job creator as well.

13. Ok I will give you another example |
|
I used to work at NON PROFIT agency for the developmentally disabled. Was the founder of this agency a rich person? She was a nun who left the convent. Was she or her family rich? Nope. Ok, most of these were LOW PAYING JOBS, BUT people who did this weren't working there to make a lot of money. You cannot put a price on this. No one would have lasted one single day in this field if you didn't care more about PEOPLE than money. Do you think people should be making a lot of money, and profits, off the less fortunate? I don't.
BTW, I was not bragging. I plan to leave here very soon BECAUSE all this means nothing to me. MONEY, and material possessions cannot keep my kids close to me, or give me the 4 Seasons I so want. I will be moving in with my daughter who lives in a basement apartment. I suppose many, many would not understand that all. My choice OVER THIS.
I was bringing up the point of NON PROFITS, and how their idea of for profit businesses is the ONLY way to create jobs.
And for what it is worth, I HATE corporations and small for profit businesses.

anyway comparing low paying jobs to serve the well off is a wee bit different than relatively low paying jobs (usually with fairly good benefits- at least in my experience) that serve the public good and underserved populations.
and I don't hate small for profit businesses.

Ya know I completely understand hating the big corporations. I understand hating the businesses who put the bottom line above their customers and employees.
But I know a lot of people that have or work for small businesses - and by small I mean less than 10 full and part-time employees including the owners. These people are just struggling to survive against a stacked deck and some bad odds. Nobody is getting rich. The ones I am familiar with treat their customers and employees better than larger businesses. I rather admire them for being able to make their own way against some very long odds.

taker in society. How much have you stolen and taken from Americans for your "gate"? There will come a time to storm the gates and take back what folks have taken. Enjoy while you can. Enjoy. It will be "those people" you look down upon that will get back what they earned for you.

But, I'd guess that a builder decided he wanted to be richer so he got together the plans and financing to create the community and golf course and restaurant. He made his money, then left you with a community that you like that supports itself and provides many jobs. Everybody wins and the builder is probably off creating a new community with the money he made off of yours.
It's possible for a lot of homeowners in an area to decide they want to create local jobs and so they get the funding together to build the infrastructure to support the jobs. But more often than not it involves rich investors doing it to become richer. Does DU really believe those investors don't play a roll in creating jobs?

26. We are ALL job creators, at least in the sense you describe. |
|
Every time we spend money, we're supporting the jobs of those who work for the places that receive that money. Every consumer, even an unemployed consumer, generates jobs. It's how the general economy operates, basically.
You live in a gated community. OK. Some jobs are specific to that community. Those who do not live in a gated community support jobs in the overall community. The result is the same. You spend money and people are hired to supply the services and merchandise you spend that money on.
There is no difference.

39. To be honest, just being alive makes one a job creator |
|
because we all need to eat, we all need beds and roofs and (most of us) phones and electricity. We need cars and (therefore mechanics), clothes (and therefore seamstresses), schools for our kids (and therefore teachers and janitors). When we get sick we need nurses and doctors, lab techs and housekeepers.
In the most basic sense, what's needed to create jobs is ... warm bodies. Heck, even dead bodies create jobs.
