source for Congressional percentages:: New York Times/CBS Pol (Actually, I think that 6% felt that Congressmen deserved to be reelected.)

5. Also feeding the meme is spin and made up "news" from unsourced blogs. |
|
I still find it staggering that anyone finds it coincidental: right after the Republicans get in trouble for a budget that would privatize Medicare, we're suddenly bombarded 24/7 with the message that Obama wants to kill Medicare?

8. Bizarro backward world! |
|
Eric Cantor just tweeted the wisdom of cooperation vs. an all or nothing approach.
No coincidence at all. The TeaBaggers are brainless twits who will swallow all this crap and parrot it back as the truth. There are plenty of non-thinking people who will believe it too.
I had a TeaBagger tell me that Obama wants to get rid of firefighters, medicare, social security, and teachers... "and that is a sure sign he's leading us right down the road to socialism!"
Imagine her confusion when I explained that those were all SOCIALIZED programs. She said thanks for the information, but she was going to research that herself to see if they were.
:banghead:
Staggering is right... this is no coincidence. This was absolutely thought through and planned.

18. The Republicans may be stupid. But their propaganda people ARE NOT. |
|
People need to get that through their heads. The Republican propaganda machine is not run by hicks and morons--it's run by some of the best and keenest manipulators the world has to offer. Those people are NOT going to miss the opportunity to spread "black propaganda" about Democrats, targeted not just at the right and the middle but also at the left.

There are many think tanks filled with professionals who do nothing but research and develop this kind of manipulation.
We really need to keep our wits about us!
Sadly, I know many extremely intelligent Pubbies who lap this crap up. They get very annoyed when presented with clear proof... you can almost hear the gears grind in their heads. Then they take it to a personal level and start belittling. I don't let them draw me into these conversations anymore. The most I will say is, please don't tell me how I feel, or, no, I don't feel like that at all... they are always telling me how liberals and progressives and Democrats think or feel. It's all bullshit, of course.

16. I would settle for a rule against posting unsourced or factually false claims. |
|
Just having the mods shut down the repeated posting of articles which are blatantly false would be a good start towards cleaning up the propaganda. I wrote Skinner lobbying for it, but he was noncommittal.

4. Is it 6% of democrats approve of congress? or are 2 different groups being polled? |
|
How much of the country identifies as republican vs. democrat? I have to admit I don't pay much attention to the polls. I'm sure that trolls are about, but I also think many who are critical of Obama will vote for him when given the choices at the polls - I think that's a given.

6. I know other polling data said 12% overall approval of Congress. |
|
As a rule of thumb, about an average of one third of the country identifies as each political party, with the remaining third being indies. That fluctuates a little: for instance leading up to 2008, something like 38% IDed as Dems, while closer to 30% as Reps.
A more useful measurement might be in philosophical self-identification. 40% of the country self-describes as "conservative," 40% as "moderate," and 20% as "liberal."

10. Prediction: Congress will have a negative 6% rating next time. |

That's not right mathematically, but this is America and we'll find a way to hate them that much.
