Death Toll Rises from Reno Air Show Crash

Federal investigators are still trying to determine why a World War Two era fighter plane crashed nose first into a grandstand of spectators Saturday.

Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) say it’s still too early to determine exactly what happened . Organizers of the event say the crash was likely caused by mechanical failure, not pilot error. The pilot, 74-year-old Jimmy Leeward, was among those killed in the crash.

Officials say five people are now confirmed dead and more than 50 others have serious injuries.

The two deaths reported in an earlier update this morning were total deaths. It included the people killed on Friday. Renown is not reporting any new deaths today.
