23. Those trikes are fun!! but can be dangerous, especially when chasing horses
who can run fast. Really fast. And you try to keep up. Over hills and ruts. And they tip over ........ never mind ....... I drifted off.

39. The first time I saw that photo, I thought he had killed it.
I thought the same when I read the part about him harpooning the whale. In both cases, I was quite happy to be wrong. Good on him! I'm really jealous of him and his bathysphere trip in Lake Baikal.

Frankly I don't think there is anyone in our Congress who can.

Politics aside, Putin is a remarkably fit and talented man. Got to admit that.

41. LOL. Do you know why they've been jailed?
It ain't for being oligarchical, that's for damn sure. Khodarkovsky and others are mostly in jail for 'fraud,' aka supporting political parties other than United Russia. I'm sure they have committed fraud too, but all of those other wealthy businessmen who support United Russia seem to have gotten passes.

I just did a quick google and found out some interesting articles.

Here's just one of them.

http://www.zimbio.com/Mikhail+Khodorkovsky/articles/hYUwrtLJ3Ct/Europe+hate+Putin

After the destruction of the USSR, the break up of the Russian Federation was inevitable. Europe wanted it, America had worked for it, and the Oligarchs were ensuring that this would happen. The only impediment in their way was the Ex-KGB boss Putin. He took back Russia from a Russian Prime Minister (Boris Berezovsky) who as it turned out had Israeli nationality. There was a huge scandal about it, and Boris had to give up his Israeli passport. According to media reports “Berezovsky boasts that he caused the war in Chechnya, in which tens of thousands have been killed and a whole country devastated”.

A few years back Uri Avnery a Jew from Israel wrote about the Oligarchs. It is worth reading. http://www.countercurrents.org/avnery020804.htm

Hey - I'm learning, but so far, the dreaded, demon, evil Putin doesn't seem any worse than many other leaders.

"Today the Rupert Murdoch organization and even neutral news outlets like the VOA, and the BBC are busy spewing vitriol about Putin and Russia. To understand what is going on we have to look at the historical perspective as described by Uri. Various statements about Putin have to be taken into context. If one is to read Uri Avnery the same thing happened in the US a hundred years ago when the Robber Barons took over the country. Uri can say that, if we said it, we would be part of the lunaitic fringe that believed in Conspiracy theories."

But, you know for damned sure, so I'll keep your post in mind.

Hell I could have used a certain famous photo of bush with a halo...

Oh yeah here

At a deep level the photos are propaganda... and it has little do do with ideology.

I just said I have seen the propaganda before.

In some ways, I suppose he is. I can't think of any other current national leader like him.
