GE's Immelt(down) tells Fareed that American workers need more vacations!
Edited on Sun Sep-18-11 11:49 AM by sfpcjock
He said that the increase in "leisure" and temporary worker permits are a done deal, so don't ask him about them. Very polished and dismissive. He spends most of his year in China, Brazil and Europe he said. One interesting point was how he compared the "government interference" in business he sees in China where it is, in fact, centrally planned and funded.

There is another dose of Immelt, etc. tonight on CNN prime time - GPS Special: Getting back to work

1. Wouldn't that be a good thing?
I know Immelt is not popular around here, but more vacation time would increase productivity, worker morale and benefit the tourism and hospitality industries.

2. True. But, what was odd was how he seemed to describe
Edited on Sun Sep-18-11 11:55 AM by sfpcjock
what are usually called "guest worker" and H1B foreign worker exception permits "leisure" visas, I believe. It makes it sound that the U.S. is bringing in vacationers.

That just seemed bizarre and like he was trying to shine Fareed on so he wouldn't get a follow up question in the limited time. He has an odd style where he stare blindly at the interviewer and seems to be reading from a very detailed script in his mind. Frankly, it looks scary :scared:
