Never watched this before, but I think I will tonight.
Was curious and clicked on the details. Looks like a Koch wet dream.

It's on my DVR, but I just haven't been in the mood to watch it.

it's not just out of print, but also if perhaps there was some problem with Freddie Mercury's estate . . . ?
I'm not a big Benetar fan, but the love theme she does, Here's My Heart, for that film just kills!!

the soundtrack. Purists of course think it is second rate, because it's not purely original.
Watch that one if you can find it. The soundtrack has some beautiful stuff in it. I used to use it every semester in my Psychology classes and my high school students really got into it.

12. If that's the Moroder version, it's a treasure, even though the purists will turn their nose up at |
|
it.
I have looked for years and years and can't find it anywhere.
I'm afraid it's been tied up by FM's estate. Too bad!
I found Benetar's contribution, had to buy a big boxed set to get it, but have never seen Mercury's music for this film anywhere!

I have to get up early in the morning (early meeting) and may not make it thru the entire movie (it ends after 2 a.m.) http://www.amazon.com/Giorgio-Moroder-Presents-Metropolis-Special/dp/B005J7K950/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1316401585&sr=8-2if it is I'll order it to watch at my leisure.

19. Ha, ha . . . note the reviews: Love it!, Hate it!, Love it!, Hate it! . . . |

Definitely pre-ordering here, but noting that they mention Moroder's score without mentioning Freddie Mercury or Pat Benetar, so I'm thinking some legal thing stripped their music out of it.
It's worth owning anyway. Thanks for finding it!

13. There is a bit of nobles oblige in the reaction to the Workers who go crazy & forget about the |

safety of their children, while they destroy the machine in which they are slaves. That scene always bothers me; it is, otherwise, a real treat. Powerful visualizations some of which you will recognize from common derivatives used by people like Madonna and elsewhere.
I think I'll look it up on Roku and watch it again soon.
Enjoy! :hi:

weird you noticed it's a silent film. I say that because I loathe silent films.
But I really want to see this. The comments on this thread are all appreciative of the film. And I value DU opinion.
Besides -- these days when I watch a DVD I always have the captions on. Getting old is a bitch :)

21. The last restoration is the best. |
|
In the older restorations there were gaps in the plot, the new one has a lot of the missing 'pieces ' in it.
Makes more sense (to me anyway). Enjoy!!

32. Just got done watching it... |
|
A great social commentary that is as true today as it was in 1927...
A lot of ham acting but that is to be expected in a silent movie.
The score was great, the special effects were pretty cool and the story was right on.
I just finished watching it about 20 minutes or so ago.
