Not too crazy about the idea of COMPROMISING Medicare and SS benefits |
|
for future generations in return for some loophole tax reform.
Maybe it's just me.....
Convince me why this would be a good deal.

11. Re: your statement. My Medicare is already paid through a private |
|
insurance company MEDICA. Isn't everyone's? My state also does this for Medicaid. I also no longer see a local social worker but one sent out by MEDICA. How much more privatized can they get. IMO what they want is to get rid of the whole health care system.

2. Perpetrating cuts in Medicare and SS benefits is crazy. |
|
No deal including such cuts should be considered.

3. because this can be reversed in the future. |
|
the problem is the people who will retire 30 yrs or so from now need jobs now. if people could go back to work then medicare/social security will be fully funded. tens of millions of people not paying in or paying less than they should is the problem.

12. You're dreaming, it would NEVER be reversed unless the conservatives |
|
(DLC, Blue Dogs, New Dems) were completely driven from the Democratic Party to the point that it once became the party of the people. How likely is that given the conservative corporate media that immediately maligns the character of any populist/liberal/progressive that dare to seek public office?

5. Because we're not compromising Medicare and Social Security benefits? |
|
There are no cuts to Social Security, and small cost increases on Medicare.

9. You state that as fact. |
|
Can you link to an actual proposal with those actual terms?

7. IF medicare or SS has importance in your life as |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-19-11 05:22 PM by Riftaxe
a senior, then obviously your not wealthy enough to contribute to a campaign. This is a pure win situation politically, your not pissing anyone of significance off and you get the PR bonus of appearing to be doing something (Ain't politics grand?).
After all when was the last time a senior dependant on medicare or SS paid to attend a $35,000 dinner?

10. Obama will NEVER get my support to make cuts to the Big 3 social programs. |
|
It's unacceptable to me.
Even IF we "increase" taxes on the rich.
Those "increases" will be gotten out of through loopholes or simply repealed in a couple of years while the cuts to the social programs will remain indefinitely.
I believe the above will happen based on the activities of the past 30 years. We can't let the cuts happen to begin with.
