Won't someone think of the MULTI MILLIONAIRES?!!!

http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/09/19/322405/gop-rep-whines-400k/

Fleming is himself a businesses owner, so Jansing asked, “If you have to pay more in taxes, you would get rid of some of those employees?” Fleming responded by saying that while his businesses made $6.3 million last year, after you “pay 500 employees, you pay rent, you pay equipment, and food,” his profits “a mere fraction of that” — “by the time I feed my family, I have maybe $400,000 left over.” Watch it:

2. Isn't that funny...his "leftovers" for one year would've taken me ten years
of full-time accrued pay. He must be in awe of how I still exist.

3. Is it his family eating $200,000 a year or his hair?
BTW asshole you people attack "people who make certain incomes" all the time. The WSJ calls them "lucky duckies" and across the board you vilify people for NOT BEING RICH.

5. $600,000 of $6,300,000 is just under 10%.
He is taking 10% out of a Subway??? I have worked for several small restaurant owners who would KILL for 10% of revenue.

I don't Mr. Krabbs gets 10% out of the Krusty Krabb.

So what's he doing running a business on the side? I think it's legally allowed for state legislatures, but this guy is a member of the US Congress. Am i missing something?

19. So, we resent his 400,00 pay...
...even though his business provides jobs for 500 employees? People aren't supposed to make a good return if they own a business? As long as the business is filling a need in the market and operating legally, who cares what the owner makes?

attitude :nopity: but I think you already know what the real gripe here is. You're trying to make this something it isn't and in the process your true stripes are showing.

edit: added word.

32. My true stripes?
Wow. Do you divine water as well as determine posters' true stripes?

You are projecting a "poor little me" attitude on him with little or no basis.

Watch the video again. The commentator mentioned that his business "brought you $6.3 million." There is usually a huge difference between a business's gross revenue and net profit, which is often not understood by the casual viewer who is not familiar with such matters. He was clarifying that the 6.3 million does not all accrue to him. His clarification did not seem like whining or complaining, only correcting what would otherwise could be a huge misinterpretation of his income. His answer seemed explanatory, not whiny.

As you read down the titles of the responses in this thread, can you say there isn't a knee-jerk "fuck the rich" attitude being displayed?

23. The issue is not what you framed. The Congressman is complaining
about having $400,000 left over after paying salaries, business operating expenses, taxes and meeting family expenses. The reality is that most americans don't make $400,000 in ten plus years of work, so they aren't going to be sympathetic to a person complaining about only being able to bank $400,000.

But having written the above, I would prefer that a true progressive was in the Congressman's position, instead of complaining about being to bank only $400,000 of over 6 million in earnings, the true progressive would be trying how to figure out how to give some of that $400,000 to worthy charities.

It's the fact that he seemed to want sympathy for having $400k.

35. What we rightly resent is his complaining --
about "only" having 400k at years end, and his unwillingness to pull his fair share of the taxation weight in this country.

28. I call bullshit on this guy. 500 employees? Even if that entire $6.3 million were used to pay
employees, that's still less than 13K a year per employee.

This guy is lying through his teeth.

31. There are many things wrong with his statement
#1) His business didn't "make" $6.3M... it "grossed" $6.3. "Make" ususally means net profit
#2) There is 100% no way a business that grosses $6.3 has 500 employees.
#3) He's implying that he in some way deserves sympathy

I guess $400,000 is chicken feed to him, when compared to $1 billion a year made by a hedge fund manager. But man oh man, $400,000 used to be an enormous, enormous sum when I was young. What does this guy expect from life?
