DAY 3 of the WALL STREET PROTEST: Dissenter on FiredogLake

Live Blog for #OccupyWallStreet: Day Three, Evening Edition
By: Kevin Gosztola Monday September 19, 2011 4:52 pm

Liberato’s Pizza has now officially renamed a pizza after the Occupy Wall Street action happening in a park in lower Manhattan in New York. The pizza is called The Occu-pie and it is 99% cheese, 1% pig.

For anyone going, what is Occupy Wall Street? It is an occupation being maintained by hundreds of US citizens in Zuccotti Park, a private park, that the protesters have renamed Liberty Park. The organizers are using the format known as General Assembly to facilitate organizing. Through the General Assembly, people make proposals for actions that are deliberated on and then approved or not approved. This is how they decide when to march, whether to comply with police orders, how to raise funds for food, how to get more people to support the occupation and how best to get items donated that the occupation needs to continue.

There is supposedly a direct action that will be happening this evening. Here’s a post from today on how crucial pizza could be to the occupation.

Firedoglake has been live blogging the action since Day One. I put together a list on Twitter to follow that has users that are constantly sending updates from the action.

Here is a livestream of the action from Global Revolution:

1. Man I wish we could get some traction with this!
I mean I'm sure this is where it is at but the mainstream is simply ignoring it. We don't start to change things until we really impact the big boys and this is how it probably must be done.

I guess I'm feeling guilty because I know this and yet I am not able to sacrifice my current situation to be there and do what must be done. Kudos to the activists!

5. Its futile and bereft of a cogent message. Very few outside DU/FDL care a flying fuck.
The vast majority of Dems/others support markets and equity ownership in their 401K/IRA.

What are these people protesting? The message is diluted and incoherent. Bash away at me - but few care. Its reminiscent of OBL's attack on the WTC complex or the WTO protests.

Regular Americans don't give a damn. They just want jobs.

7. Exactly my point...
Until folks realize who their true oppressors are we are dead in the water. And as your post makes clear - folks just don't "get it".

2. I'm hoping they can continue it...but rain is in forecast for rest of week in NYC.
But, if it doesn't work out now...I'm thinking things might get worse later and more folks will wake up to what's going on. So, there will be other chances going forward to get a sustainable movement.

4. Maybe the National Lawyers Guild will take on doing a RICO suit against
Geithner. For allhis various manipualtions of the money he was entrusted with, back when he headed the NY Federal Reserve.

We need to put people in prison, come what may.

Trillions have gone to the bastards on Wall Street, and it gets used to allow Goldman Sachs purchase an entire Nature Preserve in Patagonia, while our jobs shrivel up on Main Street.

I want arrests on Wall street.

6. Good on ya, and remember
Act as you see fit, and don't worry about the result. There will be no shortage of people trying to tell you that your efforts are useless, or won't make a difference, or nobody cares, or nobody notices (sometimes all at once!). You're doing the right and just thing, and that in itself is worth doing.
