Andy Griffith sees popularity fall after taping health care spot
Edited on Tue Sep-20-11 02:01 AM by Adenoid_Hynkel
What next? Hating apple pie and the flag? Lousy teabaggers are as unamerican as they come:
----
-Last September we found that Andy Griffith, once one of North Carolina's most beloved figures, had seen a precipitous drop in his popularity after filming an ad in support of the health care bill. He was at a +22 favorability (44/22) after having been at +47 (56/9) during the summer of 2008. We decided to test him again on our last statewide poll to see if he'd recovered from the PR hit that the health care ad caused and the answer is a resounding no- in fact his numbers have dropped even further. Now just 32% of North Carolinians see Griffith favorably to 23% with a negative opinion.

The main reason Griffith has dropped so far is that Republicans now express an outright negative opinion of him at 24/39. His favorability was a 35/31 spread with them last fall. Although the fall isn't as dramatic, he's also down with Democrats (from 53/11 to 39/12) and independents (from 40/27 to 28/23).

3. I still watch his show. Can we write to him?
I remember that ad he and Ron Howard did for Obama. Andy was great in Waitress, too. Who cares what a bunch Fox-watching ignint mean people think? They'd hate me, too.

Is there a way to contact him? Send him some love.

I will always love you, Andy.

10. I don't have enough money and I don't care what teabaggers think of me
And I doubt that money is a factor for most liberals as to whether their political views are popular with idiots.

11. Andy Griffith: one of the icons of my childhood.
When I am so old I cannot remember by own name I still will be able to whistle the theme tune of "The Andy Griffith Show". When he dies another piece of my childhood will pass with him.

Seasons 1-8 (249 episodes) are available on Netflix streaming as is "No Time for Sergeants". "A Face in the Crowd" is available on DVD.

15. Hillbilly teabaggers
want to cast a shadow over the Enlightenment. Andy is an American treasure and talented actor with a conscious. The baggers just want to project their own self loathing on everyone else. Misery loves company.

18. That and he never carried a gun!
Edited on Tue Sep-20-11 08:25 AM by Javaman
That wasn't coffee the old sheriff was drinking at the police station with Barney, that was a Latte'!!!

And his squad car? Not American, it was a Toyota Prius!!!

Aunt Bea? You think she was an American? I never saw her birth certificate!

Don't even get me started on Opie! Mr. Apollo 13 is about as UnAmerican as they come!! Making a movie about an American space failure, which I might add was shot on a sound stage...JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL APOLLO 11 LANDING!!!!

Barny was the real hero!!! He carried a gun! He threw drunks in the clink! And he went toe to toe with the Darlings!!!

Sheriff Andy Taylor, my foot! That guy always talked to people and got them to do the right thing, I never saw him go in with guns a blazin'!!! That's no cop!!!

Oh wait, it's time for my meds.

19. North Carolina has gone down the outhouse pit
I've lived here all my life, and though surrounded by Southern Baptists and old style Republicans, I knew the state was balanced out by areas of liberalism and intellectualism. However, in the last few years the racists, homophobes, xenophobes, and ignoranuses (aka "stupid a**holes) have roared back into the public sphere, unapologetically and even joyously proclaiming their determination to drag our state & country right back to the Dark Ages (or at least the glorious and halcyon times of the antebellum years).

My little rural county ALWAYS voted Dem in statewide elections, and often in national elections. That trend continued in 2008 with one glaring exception: the Presidency. All the Dem candidates won overwhelming here with the exception of Obama. Oh my, could these folks BE more obvious? NO Dem won in the 2010 races here.

The hatred now of all things Democratic, liberal, inclusive is so overt, so deranged, that this poll surprises me not one bit. Andy dared to endorse Bev Perdue during her gubernatorial race. Bev Perdue has done nothing to incite the rage against her EXCEPT be a Democrat, and that rage is foaming, bubbling, and about to spew like a volcano.

Our schools have been gutted, as have environmental laws. The constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage will pass easily here. The 12th Century wankers are in their glory. Our Rethug state legislators bray that we need to be more like SOUTH Carolina. That's how far into the sewer we've sunk.

as the republican primary.
