To stupid fucks: we are all progressives. |

We just disagree about where progress should stop.
Should it stop with middle aged white men who are not royals, yet think they should have power? Or perhaps middle aged white women who think they should have the right to vote, work outside the home, and have opinions of their own? Or perhaps with conservatives who are under 21, yet think they should have the right to vote? Or maybe it should stop with black men who think they have the right to take the pay from their work, drink from a regular drinking fountain, sit anywhere they damn please on the bus, and have the right to vote? Or maybe it should stop with all of the people who are currently in this nation at this moment, but whose origins lie elsewhere? Or maybe it should stop with wealthy gay people who think they should have the right to see their loved ones when they are dying in a hospital?
You see, everyone is a progressive, they just think progress should stop with them, and everything after that is too much. Funny that. Or at least a large number of people think that way.
This is why so many people say they are "conservatives". They don't count the facts of the past, that they were probably at one time included in a group that was discriminated against.

2. Let's quibble over terms! That's easier than doing something. |

:headbang:
I'm reminded of the Emo Philips joke:
"Are you religious?" He said, "Yes." I said, "Me too. Are you Christian or Buddhist?" "Christian." "Me too. Are you Catholic or Protestant?" "Protestant." "Me too. Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?" "Baptist." "Wow. Me too. Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?" "Baptist Church of God." "Me too. Are you original Baptist Church of God, or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?" "Reformed Baptist Church of God." "Me too. Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?" He said: "Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915." I said: "Die, heretic scum,"

3. I mean this to say that everyone is a liberal, a progressive... |
|
everyone is left wing, they just want the policies that left wingers have implemented over the years to help them, and not the ones of other people, at least if they consider themselves conservatives.

7. By Canadian terms ..... |
|
72% of Americans are reactionaries, and only 28% of Americans are progressive to any extent. Half of Americans who consider themselves Liberals are principally reactionary in Canadian terms.
A fairly recent poll asked Canadians and Americans what their political philosophy was:
___________________Canadians________Americans
Very Conservative_____3%______________12% Conservative_________38%______________47% Liberal______________39%______________30% Very Liberal_________12%_______________7%

8. Yes, and do they think they should have the right to vote and not be dominated by an aristocracy? |
|

Do they think they should have the rights in the Magna Carta? Probably, right?
Then, they too are progressives.
Progress is a funny thing, it's always being redefined, and people who now hold "conservative" positions, would have been progressives in another era.

Canadians are not dominated by an aristocracy in the way Americans are. Elections in Canada are publicly financed and the limit on political contributions by an individual or a corporation is $1100 a year.
