Monday came and went.
And we did not get what I feared was going to happen. The President did not propose raising the Medicare age to 67.

Instead, we got a centrist deficit reduction proposal that includes reasonable spending cuts paired with reasonable tax increases on the wealthy. In other words, the President is acting like a Democrat. And I LIKE it!

Not only that, we also got some pretty strong rhetoric from the White House using Democratic frames. Threats to veto any cuts to Medicare and Medicaid if there are no corresponding sacrifices by the rich. Social Security basically off the table. It isn't class warfare, it's math!

I won't lie. This is making me much happier with the President. I could really get behind the direction President Obama seems ready to go.

Of course, I'm cautious. I'm waiting for Lucy to snatch the football away from me at the last minute. But, for now, I'm willing to give the President the benefit of the doubt.

I'm hoping he's figured out that you can position yourself as a partisan Democrat and *still* look like the most reasonable man in the room.

1. Sounds like Richard Pryor's dad.
"My dad died fuckin'. Just up and died. He came and went at the same time. That bitch (sic) couldn't GIVE away pussy for two years. 'No way. You done killed one mother fucker already with that. Not me'."

That's the best I can remember the stand-up routine.

3. I don't know about his supporters.
But right now he needs to woo those of us who are his former supporters.
