A statement from Troy:
Edited on Wed Sep-21-11 02:20 AM by tblue
“The struggle for justice doesn’t end with me. This struggle is for all the Troy Davises who came before me and all the ones who will come after me. I’m in good spirits and I’m prayerful and at peace. But I will not stop fighting until I’ve taken my last breath.”

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/09/20/1018737/-I-am-Troy-Davis?via=spotlight

Read the whole page. I hope you will. Look at the pictures. Is this who we are...still?

If this doesn't break your heart, something is seriously wrong. It doesn't really do Troy any good if we hurt for him. But it may move us to try, yet again, to stop the next innocent person from being executed.

I can't believe this is not just a nightmare.

3. I am Troy Davis
"it's still murder. And it's barbaric. And it's being done in our name."

Thank you for sharing...that author certainly wrote an amazing piece! From Mr. Davis' short statement, it sounds as tho he still holds hope that his case may open the eyes of our nation on the dreadful finality of the death penalty. I cringe to think of what he faces now.

For any who may have missed Troy's sister's article from last Friday, here's the link to that, also:

5. I've been trying to email Nathan Deal
Via the international contact form on Georgia gov. website and the bloody php form email is wrong. It just will not work or send email.

As a workaround I sent to governor@georgia.gov and that has just been returned to me.

A man's life is in the balance and this guy cannot even get his contact details right on his website.

14. here is a number:
Judge Penny Freezeman is apparently the only one that can stop the execution of #troydavis 912-652-7252 let's call her now!

That was from Sandra Bernhard's twitter - I hope that it's right. I also wrote to : Clemency_Information@pap.state.ga.us

but it may be out of their hands now.

19. None of the phone # that I have will work anymore...
these past two days, it's been impossible for me to get thru, not even in the dead of night. I even tried that judge's number but it "could not complete the call". I suspect that Georgian authorities have all gathered, incommunicado, for their big vengeance party, and have rigged the numbers to redirect into a void, now.

The NAACP is trying to get thru to meet with Obama, to try to get Mr. Davis a reprieve that way, otherwise, they will be filing a Civil Rights violation case, in the name of Troy Davis.

I'm not trying to start an argument. I respect your position, and in 99% of the time agree with it, but this case strikes too close to home. Komisarjevsky's trial is just starting here.

12. Even if you're right 99.9% of the time and truly guilty and evil people are put down like dogs...
The price of error is just too damn high when the state MURDERS an innocent man.

Texas already killed an innocent man in 2004 under Rick Perry's watch.

The death penalty should have been permanently ended nation-wide right then and there, after the truth came out.

So important. And so liberating. I see this as one man's responsibility to change the civility of society.

The less I say, the better. But I'm thinking of comparing this man to some who have been in office recently. No comparison. Yet one is on death row.

20. "recantations and everything else it has been a lie,"Widow, Joan MacPhail
"The truth that came out in the trial. The truth that troy is not innocent. The truth that everything they have tried to say that is recantations and everything else it has been a lie," says Widow, Joan MacPhail.
"We know what the truth is. For someone to ludicrously say he is a victim. We are the victims. Look at us. We have put up with this stuff for 22 years. It's time for justice today," says Joan.

http://www2.wsav.com/news/2011/sep/19/clemency-board-hears-last-appeal-troy-davis-ar-2434700

Not one witness recanted under oath.
-Lawton question why it took Davis' lawyers 15 or 20 years to get these witnesses to recant and why they then waited until eight days before Davis' first scheduled execution to make these explosive statements public.

22. There is now an update there...a Letter from Troy Davis...
http://newsone.com/nation/newsonestaff2/a-message-from-troy-davis/

"As I look at my mail from across the globe, from places I have never ever dreamed I would know about and people speaking languages and expressing cultures and religions I could only hope to one day see first hand. I am humbled by the emotion that fills my heart with overwhelming, overflowing Joy. I can’t even explain the insurgence of emotion I feel when I try to express the strength I draw from you all, it compounds my faith and it shows me yet again that this is not a case about the death penalty, this is not a case about Troy Davis, this is a case about Justice and the Human Spirit to see Justice prevail."

28. About 10,000 people in the United States may be wrongfully convicted of serious crimes each year
The actual offender remains free to victimize other citizens.

What causes wrongful convictions? To find out, Huff and his co-authors created a database of 205 wrongful convictions collected from a variety of sources. After analyzing these cases, the researchers found that most wrongful convictions resulted from a combination of errors. The main cause in more than half of the cases -- 52.3 percent -- was eyewitness misidentification.

The next most common main cause was perjury by a witness, which contributed to 11 percent of the convictions. Other problems included negligence by criminal justice officials, coerced confessions, "frame ups" by guilty parties, and general overzealousness by officers and prosecutors.

Overzealousness can lead authorities to make careless, if unintentional errors, and cause some authorities to bend rules to get a known criminal off the street. Failure to keep an open mind can cause errors that become rubber-stamped by trusting colleagues as the case moves through the judicial process, Huff says. By the time the errors are discovered, the trail to the real offender is cold.

Public pressure to solve a case and the organizational culture of a police or district attorney's office can affect the process. While most errors are unintentional, the researchers say there are far too many incidences of unethical and unprofessional behavior.

"If you lock someone up for life, you take him off the streets, but you can later release him and compensate him if you discover that you made an error. If you kill him, you no longer have that option and you also send a message that violent solutions -- executions -- are approved by the state."
