Tropical Storm Ophelia forms

AT 500 AM EDT...0900 UTC...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM OPHELIA WAS
LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 12.7 NORTH...LONGITUDE 41.8 WEST. OPHELIA IS
MOVING TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 13 MPH...20 KM/H...AND THIS GENERAL
MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT 48 HOURS WITH SOME
INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 45 MPH...75 KM/H...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. SOME GRADUAL STRENGTHENING IS POSSIBLE DURING THE NEXT
DAY OR SO.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 175 MILES...280
KM...MAINLY TO THE NORTH OF THE CENTER.

ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 1005 MB...29.68 INCHES.

6. Jeff Master's blog says storms are most likely to stay out of Gulf, go up E. Coast.
I have mixed feelings about that, Georgia is in serious drought, Texas is in "abysmal" drought,
only Louisiana does not need any more water coming in.
but Masters says prevailing winds will most likely keep weather systems ( there are 3 now forming off Africa) off to the East of the Coast. "Maybe" some will impact near Np. Carolina...too soon to tell at this point, he said.

7. In another month, these storms will be mostly done.
We desperately need a slow, weak tropical storm to enter the Gulf and make its way to Texas. We have had some rain this month, just enough to perk up our yards, but not enough to refill tanks, wash estuaries, refill lakes, and replenish ground water.

9. It worries me
The path these things are taking this year is scary


One runs up the east coast, then one stays east of hitting the coast. Split the difference and one of these is going to make landfall in NY harbor.
