Former state Democratic Party executive director Andrew Whalen will try to help the Blue Dog Democrats make a comeback in 2012.
Whalen, a political consultant based in Raleigh, will run the Blue Dogs' political committee, trying to elect more moderate Democrats.
Blue Dog Democrats picked up seats across the country during the 2006 and 2008 elections but suffered major losses during the Republican sweep in 2010.

I read in the Wednesday, September 21st Under The Dome section of the News & Observer that former Democratic Party executive director Andrew Whalen will run the Blue Dogs' political committee. Evidently, he didn't learn the lesson of 2010 that if voters have a choice between a Republican and a Democrat that votes with Republicans on key economic and foreign policy issues, they will choose the Republican. The Blue Dogs were a major factor in the 2008 elections not being a change election in spite of the numbers of Democrats elected into office. Instead of fooling the Democratic Party's voters into thinking they are choosing something different from the Republican Party, maybe it would be better if he and the Blue Dogs joined the Republican Party so that the voters can have a real choice when they vote for a Democrat on the ballot.
We'll see soon if it will be published. For you who are Blue Dogs or are their supporters, I feel it is important that those of us blamed for "gridlock" as Whalen does when the Republican Party is a my way or the highway party should be able to respond.
