"Rome Wasn't Burned In A Day": Replacing Liberal Timidity With Leftist Passion

by Phil Rockstroh

Why is it that self-termed progressives are in full retreat (and have been for decades) from the witless army of angry clowns and hack illusionists of the U.S. rightwing?

One contributing factor involves the sterile cultivation of the persona of the "reasonable liberal," a type favored and rewarded by the status quo-protective power brokers of the Democratic Party and by corporate media organizations that find useful his trait of rendering himself feckless (e.g., the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue) by the passion-annihilating (but self-serving) device of his preening amiability?

But in so doing, the self-gelded liberal has sacrificed libido and discarded sacred vehemence for careerist privilege. Worse, the rest of us are advised to follow suit…that, in order to gain credibility, one must slouch towards center-hugging irrelevance.

We are counseled that in order to navigate this age of corporate dominance that one's irascible apprehensions and unruly aspirations must be suppressed, for such passions are deemed too radical for mainstream sensibilities, and are therefore regarded as impractical as they are untoward by the crackpot realists of the corporate bottom line whose dictates dominate the political discourse and economic arrangements of our time. .............(more)

2. We need Progressive politicians who are not afraid...
to throw the fastball at the batter's head. You know, a warning pitch.

4. A LOUD SCREAMING K&R!
IMHO, Passionate Lefties see the country as in dire, dire straits. It's not a cyclical phase we are in.

Time is of the essence. We don't believe we have months or years to hope to maybe find common ground with Repubs so we can consider the possible validity of patiently nudging the US away from our imminent destruction.

Our hair is on fire! It is an EMERGENCY!

Elections are about to be stolen!
The planet is gasping for air!
The USPS is about to fold!
Wall Street is steamrolling over us still!
People are suffering, dying, losing their homes, livelihoods, futures!
Fascist governments are taking over swing states!
Pension funds are being stolen!
The Big Three is under relentless attack and will be until they are gone!

The Passionate Left understands that we DO NOT YET have an adequate answer. It's not being fixed and it's not getting better. We don't have all day.

An election will not fix this. How could it anyway if it's stolen?

6. The answer is #occupywallstreet
Wall Street is the soft underbelly of the beast. People of every stripe need to give their aid and support to this movement. We can do this.

BTW, the revolution is being "televised." https://occupywallst.org/
