I started looking for a place where I could find anything that countered what I was being fed, since 2000. I truly was going mad. Honest to god, I started "googling" undercover dems, just a feeling I had that anyone like me was in "hiding". Not sure when I finally joined, but I was a lurker for a long time.

With a lot of help from Katherine Harris and the Supremes. There wasn't much to do about it after Smirky took (literally) office because they stacked the deck in their favor but DU helped ease the pain for me.

It's good to know that your posts won't be deleted, that you won't be infracted for saying something that someone on the right is able to say and not receive the same treatment. It's refreshing to be among many that think the same in many issues - and whose arguments actually make sense, unlike other forums.

24. During the run-up to Iraq, it seemed like I was one of the only people I knew in real life |
|
(aside from my then-fiance/now-husband) who didn't think it was a good idea. I thought it was a terrible idea. I thought the evidence was drummed up, and I thought we were going in the wrong direction by shifting so much focus from Afghanistan. Meanwhile I was surrounded by people who were practically drooling at the thought of taking out Saddam.
I turned to the internet one day while killing time between classes, seeking like-minded people who could assure me I wasn't losing my marbles. And I found DU.

Of another forum had me labeled as a liberal. Heard of this liberal forum that had so many of the conservatives there so pissed off. Came here to hear what you had to say.
I agree with much but think there are many loony tunes here. Just as I find the positions espoused on conservative forums so ridiculous.
When are people going to learn to think for themselves, not to just accept the canned positions given out by the parties?

Way back when Air America was leading the charge to impeach Bush and then imploded I wanted to keep up with that and related issues and found DU to be a good way to do that. Even after all those years I still don't comment very much but I learn a lot from others. It would be great to have the DU community united the way we were during the Bush years but hate to think it will take a Rick Perry regime to make that happen.

I was SURE there would be mass protests and Nationwide Civil Disobedience.
I was SURE that the leadership of the Democratic Party wouldn't tolerate such an abuse. I was SURE there would be a call for People in The Streets.
I wanted to join those who would Put Things Right.
I found DU shortly after. Back then, there was a private "Underground" forum, and I was sure that THAT was where the Mass Mobilizations were being organized. I begged to get in.
Needless to say, I was disappointed, but found DU to be challenging, educational, and inspirational, especially in those early dark years.
I've been here almost daily ever since.
You will know them by their WORKS, not by their excuses. Solidarity! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nowadays I get beat up just as much here as I did there. It's not a shelter from that anymore. In fact I hesitate to come here becasue I know I will get beat up, and I often regret it after I do come here. Not how I remember DU to be, at its best.
I can't help it though, I'm addicted now. I still come here looking for some solace, and sometimes I get that.
