healthcare reform, will it survive??? |
|
Due to the fact that there are so many ways republicans can throw obstacles at heath care reform.....starve it of funding, issue waivers to all 50 states, possibly repeal it, rule the mandate unconstitutional....how can it even survive?? Even though i'm very much in favor of it, its hard to picture it still existing 5,10 or 20 years from now.

2. I think that given the high rates of overweight and obesity in... |
|
...the U.S., younger workers are going to have more health issues than previous generations did, and you can bet your boots people will think it's a good idea to have exchanges, to allow twenty-somethings to sign up on their parents' insurance plans, to forbid companies from denying coverage due to preexisting conditions, to forbid companies from charging women more for insurance, etc.
If anything, the current system needs more reforms, not fewer, whatever that creature Michele Bachmann claims (And you'll notice she was okay with taking federal dollars when they were going to her husband).
Come to think of it, we need a few score people to scream "No!" every time one of the 'cans vows to repeal what they call Obamacare and I call the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
And besides, the whole thing hasn't been put into effect yet. That takes years, and once people find out the individual provisions, they're more likely to view them favorably. The GOP and their allies in the media have been busy disseminating talking points and labels, inventing a boogieman health care bill, etc., and people get frightened when some GOP loser claims it's socialized medicine or a government takeover of medical care.

6. The mandate will be replaced with a public option. Perry says "executive order" to kill it, Romney |
|
gives "opt outs". Florida's governor has already said, he is going for an opt out. Floridians will not have access to the new law...or lower premiums. Keep in mind, Florida has some of the highest premium rates, and for that reason, it is one of only two or three opt out states. The cost structure of the law goes into effect in 2014. That is why certain governors are trying to go to court to get it struck down at the state level. The courts say the law stands but two have said the mandate is unconstitutional and that can be fixed overnight. Because the courts are not killing the new law, they are offering up people for prez who say they will do an executive order, ala Rick Perry, or give states an op out choice ala Romney. The governor makes the choice, not the people. They also say they will agree with reforms for privatizing soc sec and ,the voucher program for medicare.
But I'm too busy watching dems who vote with them!

all the challenges to it (most of which I think are totally bogus and won't go anywhere) will start convincing more and more people that we need a genuine universal health care system as civilized countries.
