Allen Ault, former Warden of GA prison on Ed Show giving incredibly compelling interview. |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-21-11 10:50 PM by Parker CA
Called it the most clear and meditated form of pre-meditated murder that exists.
Said we are the only civilized nation in the world to still employ the death penalty,
Said the weight of executing a guilty person is incredibly heavy, but carrying the burden when a question of doubt is included is impossible to describe.
Incredibly somber tone.
"There are psychopathic people, some who are politicians..." in response to Maddow's question about people who would asked to be involved in executions. He said it's killing a person, and that the weight is not clear to many.
Wow.

5. Absolutely defeated and saddened over an act he knew was a true injustice. He was the warden |
|
who signed the letter to the pardon board today.

4. State authorized murder, with reasonable doubt. |

How much lower into the depths can we go?

10. What's this "we" stuff? That act is on a very small cadre of people in GEORGIA, not |
|
"we." I refuse to be lumped into any "responsible" group. It's quite clear who did this, and it wasn't a generic "we."

to the pardon board, and was asking some terrific questions.
He is the kind of person with the experience and voice that may actually be able to change minds.

9. Good point, we might hear from him more in the future |
|
I'm curious to know more, how he went from the prison to where he is now. Lots of knowledge there.

and I've looked everywhere for it online, so far with no luck...it was the only good in the entire Ed Show tonight. I haven't a doubt that Rachel Maddow will get him on her show...she did read a letter from him and several other former corrections officials...if only that damn parole board had heard it...

13. I found it. If you go to The Ed Show, |
|
it's the clip entitled "Execution's toll on the executioner". http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30031533/

I've been wishing I'd taken notes of that interview all evening...couldn't remember what he'd said when he was talking about how he knows all the research, how unevenly the DP is applied, the thousands of variables that go into it, and that is does not deter. And then, continuing to execute people when there is doubt hasn't anything to do with justice.
It is so good that this man has stepped forward.

a great deal to re-enter the whole sphere.
