The voice in the wilderness |
|
It is Glen Beck. And Limbaugh.
Last week I took a business trip from Virginia to Kentucky and I drove through the souther part of West Virginia where the only strong signal on my car radio was a Fox FM talk channel. The only other thing I could get on the radio for a good way in that mountainous part of W. VA was a country and western station.
How does Fox manage to get a powerful signal out there when nothing else can? The only thing available to the people living in those hollers and mountains is the paranoid, vicious ranting of Beck and Limbaugh. Pretty sad.
I gave up satellite radio two years ago when finances made it impossible to continue with the payments for it but I now think it is a necessity for my sanity to have it.

1. You know, I always meant to post something about this. |

We were in Deliverance (can't remember the real name, but it was south of anywhere civil and north of sanity with the "Repent!" signs on trees), Alabama and the only voice we heard was Rush, at like 10 PM at night. Disconcerting.

On my return trip I was treated to Neal Borowitz. Holy Mackerel, if he isn't just as loony as Beck.

4. But what I want to know is this: |
|
if Fox propaganda network can have such a strong signal literally in the middle of nowhere - why can't other voices be heard there too?
What do we have to do to get other points of view to people who have not heard anything but Fox loud and clear for years?

It works.
The corporatist agenda, disseminated under various guises may be one of the most insidious, quasi-covert campaigns ever imagined. When people talk about "taking their country back" it seems they ignore the impact that total control over media has on their perceptions of what our country may be, who has it, and what taking it back really means.
